   About Brian McFadden
Like Only A Woman Can - Australia Release

Like Only A Woman Can’ is the debut single from Irish singer/songwriter Brian McFadden set for release in Australia on March 22nd. Having spent much of the past year in the dark of the studio, but never far from the limelight, ’Like Only A Woman Can’ is the lead track from McFadden’s soon to be released sophomore solo album titled ’Set In Stone’.

’Like Only A Woman Can’ is an open and frank song paying tribute to his love and gratefulness for his fiancé and muse, Australian singer/songwriter Delta Goodrem, whom he attributes to guiding him to find redemption and artistic focus. ’It is a song about Delta’, explains Brian, ’but equally it’s me admitting the mistakes of my past, while looking forward to the future’.

’Like Only A Woman Can’ was one of the first of the 150-odd songs that Brian wrote on the way to creating ’Set In Stone’. In recent months Brian has collaborated with numerous luminaries including Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams, Tina Turner, World Party), Egg White (James Morrison) and Phil Thornalley (Natalie Imbruglia, The Cure). The net result is a more mature artist than we have previously known. Brian claims that he has never been happier and more driven. "Right now is the best place I’ve been in my life. I’m really enjoying writing and recording the album and personally things have never been better!"

An exclusive licensing deal with the recently launched Island Records Australia has led to the unique situation where Australia will be the first country to release the new album.

’Set In Stone’ is the follow up to McFadden’s 2004 solo album debut, ’Irish Sun’, which secured the coveted 1 album position in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Holland and Belgium. ’Irish Sun’ heralded three UK Top 10 hits, including the debut single, ’Real To Me’ and the worldwide hit duet ’Almost Here’ with Goodrem. Brian has also been critically recognised with his song ’Demons’ being featured in the hit US TV series ’Lost’. In addition, he has also written songs for artists as diverse as Il Divo and Girls Aloud as well as co-writing the theme song ’Together We Are One’ for the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Internationally, Brian McFadden is one of the most successful performers of his generation. Prior to going solo, he was a member of the phenomenally successful boyband Westlife, a group that sits alongside U2 as the most successful music act ever to come out of Ireland. Westlife hold the record for the most number one singles in a row on the UK charts ever - seven. They had a total of 12 number one singles during Brian’s time in the group, plus four number one albums, selling in excess of 30 million albums.

Press Release for the New Single

April 20th marks the release of the new single from Ireland’s most controversial pop star, Brian McFadden.

Having spent much of the past year in the dark of the studio, but never far from the limelight, Brian’s self-penned song is the first track from his second solo album.

“Like Only A Woman Can” is an open and frank love-song to someone who has helped the writer find redemption. ‘It is a song about Delta’, explains Brian, ‘but equally it’s me admitting the mistakes of my past, while looking forward to the future’.

In recent months Brian has collaborated with numerous luminaries including Paul Barry (Enrique Inglesias/Cher) and Phil Thornalley (Natalie Imruglia/The Cure). The net result is a more mature artist than we have previously known. Brian claims that he has never been happier and more focussed. “Right now is the best place I’ve been in my life. I’m really enjoying writing and recording the album and personally things have never been better!”

Apart from his success as a recording artist McFadden can feel justifiably proud of his achievements as a songwriter. With solo records reaching Number 1 in UK, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Holland Belgium and Australia, he has also been critically recognised with his song ‘Demons’ being featured in the U.S. TV series ‘Lost’. In addition, Brian has also written songs for artists as diverse as Il Divo and Girls Aloud, as well as the theme for the Theme for the Commonwealth Games.

Future projects include further writing with Delta Goodrem, a collaboration with Westlife’s Mark Feehily as well as the completion of the new solo album and the development of the BMF label internationally. “I admire artists like George Michael who had the guts to establish their own identity in the business and that’s what I aspire to do”.

Although McFadden’s name appears on over 50 million CDs throughout the world, he stresses that this release means most to him. “I am proud of my past, but I’m really excited about my future”.

Brian McFadden

One fifth of one of the biggest boy bands in the world, now a solo artist in his own right, at the age of just 26, Brian has all the hard won wisdom of a music veteran, but with none of the cynicism. Having sold 30 million records and picked up twelve UK number 1’s with Westlife, Brian’s passion for making music is undiminished and invigorating.

His debut solo album, ‘Irish Son’ released in October 2004, produced the number smash 1, ‘Real To Me’ and the top 5 singles, ‘Irish Son’ and ‘Almost Here’.

Brian then took to the road on a series of short intimate sets showcasing material from the new album and has just announced a 24-date tour for May and June 2005. The tour kicked off May 23rd in Southend and ended June 26th in Brighton.

“That’s the difference with the album. I love touring with it, it’s got a live feel and you can really perform it”.

Engaging and frank, Brian describes his new solo album as largely autobiographical, “every song” he admits is “a true story”. Half the album was written in collaboration with Guy Chambers and the other half with Paul Barry and producer Mark Taylor. The album is a genuine tour de force, a record stuffed with anthemic rock hits, perfectly showcasing the genuine rock and roll swagger of Brian’s voice. The album is produced by Guy Chambers, Richard Flack and Mark Taylor.

“Going in I had some ideas about what I wanted it all to sound like but basically we started from scratch and just saw how things went. Lyrically I had loads of ideas and concepts and those guys were great at just bringing things out of me.”

Production started on the album in May 2004, “It’s been quick but then some of the best tracks on the album were written really quickly. Paul and I formed a strong writing relationship right away and I wrote, ‘Real To Me’ with Guy on our very first meeting. We just clicked right away.”

(P.T.O)

Brian approached the album entirely focused on the music. When Brian talks about the album he speaks with all the fresh and infectious energy of someone making their very first record. For Brian the primary aim was to make the best record possible and find a sound that truly reflects his style, all other factors were secondary. “I just really want to be an artist on my own terms making music that I am really proud of”, says Brian. “Of course I want people to like it and listen to it and hopefully they will. Westlife fans have grown up with us and I think there is space in the new sound for everyone”.

This tough new sound is influenced by a whole range of different bands and groups including the band he manages in Ireland: Franklin. “I really like Maroon 5 and Snow Patrol at the moment”, says Brian, “I have always been into guitar stuff, from Bryan Adams to Nirvana”.

The first single, ‘Real To Me’, is an impassioned and eloquent guitar anthem about re-evaluating priorities and finding an individual voice and place of your own. Brian is keen to point out that although the song is clearly about his amicable split from Westlife, it is the only song on the album that directly references this time in his life. Lyrically and in terms of subject matter, the inspirations for the rest of the songs on the album are extraordinarily varied and ambitious. ‘Irish Son’ is about growing up Ireland and the Catholic Church; ‘Walking Into Walls’ deals with domestic violence while, ‘He’s No Hero’, explores the effect of alcoholism. The dramatic track, ‘Demons’, is about insomnia and nightmares. The song, ‘Lose, Lose Situation’, Brian laughingly says, is about, “How no matter how much you try you can never win with women”. A real journey then, full of colour, drama and insight, delivered straight from the heart.

As a solo artist, Brian has truly found his voice, producing lyrically mature and incisive music with energy and passion. Willing to take risks and experiment with his new sound, Brian is also proud of his past, well aware that he was part of something special with Westlife.

“I am blessed to be where I am, and am just really excited to be able to make music I love”.

Brian is currently working on his second album which is said to be out in spring of 2007. In the meantime he has done a single with Leann Rimes, Everybody’s Someone; which is in stores now.
