...""The glam-influenced avant-garde pop band Brilliant Pebbles delivered the show's quirkiest and strangest performance, but the band was always compulsively watchable. The Polish immigrant Monika Bukowska (she was dressed like a flapper from the future) utterly commanded the stage with her droning vocals (which sounded a bit like Siouxsie Sioux crossed with Lene Lovich) and exciting daredevil stage antics. She seemed to be willing to try almost anything to get a rise out of the audience. And her unusual and exotic vocals went well with Sam Ng's off-kilter keyboard playing, James Kennedy's solid bass lines and Philip Montoro's propulsive drumming."-Southtownstar/SunTimes News Group, Vittorio Carli
..." giant mirrors blissfully floating high above the earth’s surface. That also describes the kooky spirit of local quartet Brilliant Pebbles: Songs like “Chinese Muscles” turn six-minute running times into full-fledged space operas that sound as though they’ve been extracted from a bygone era, joyfully mashing fuzzed-out bass with church organs while frontman Monika Bukowska caterwauls in what may or may not be English."- The Onion, Chicago Decider
.."Motorcomet rivals the best of New Order and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs."-Av Club
Brilliant Pebbles clashes cultures, colors and fashion in a giddy, Gypsy-arcade assault on your senses." --Time Out Chicago
"Monika is a whirlwind, a beautiful Tasmanian devil dancer manically moving nonstop through out the entire show. Her dancing alone is entertainment enough, yet there is much more. She sings like a sweet banshee, a very unusual voice and very pleasing. The band is skilled with Samuel Ng on keys and James Kennedy on bass, and Philip Montoro keeping the beat. "-The examiner.com

"If they ever come up with a genre for Kate Bush and Joanna Newsom, Monika Bukowska will be in that genre"-nonalignmnetpact.com
"....four people united by the absence of common musical interests. The resulting compromise is a scree of warbling frippery: psych-disco from the outermost circle of neon hell. That’s not to say the Pebbles lack musical structure—the songs are poppy... In fact, the simplest description of the adjective-magnet ensemble might be neon baroque. Mixing fluorescent sounds with a positively lurid visual appearance, Brilliant Pebbles live their name in the fullest."-Chicago Weekly
In November 2007 Liz Armstrong had this to say about Brilliant Pebbles in the Chicago Reader:
As the leotard-clad front woman for this local psych-punk/prog-disco quartet, Monika Bukowska seems to be taking direction from an animal spirit guide: a bushy-tailed, neon-hued, carnivorous squirrel, maybe. She skitters, trills, and growls hosanna while her bandmates (including Reader music editor Philip Montoro, who recused himself from this write-up) turn flangey haunted-house keyboard, licks of lollipop bass, and chariot-race drums into hilariously labyrinthine, melodramatic tunes that sound like the moment in a Mexican soap opera when all becomes suddenly clear--OMG, she’s a he!--and someone gets a slap across the face....
"Brilliant Pebbles is fronted by Monika Bukowska, a "hyperactive immigrant from Poland" clad in day-glo and encrusted in cheap party jewelry. She roars and chirps through a hyper-emotional and theatrical mix of New Wave, Prog and Disco..."-WFMU's Beware of the Blog
UR CHICAGO :
"Kicking off the night with an electrifying performance was Chicago prog-disco/punk band, Brilliant Pebbles. Dressed in a blue leotard, red hot pants and orange cowboy boots, Polish singer, Monika, trilled and yelped whilst throwing herself around the stage.... ."
URB Magazine: "As unique as their name, the Brilliant Pebbles' clashing of cultured sounds and fashion is an assault on both eyes and ears. It's all loud, fucked up and ready to tear up the dancefloor. It's Karen O after some good-ass drugs yielded hallucinations of lead vocalist Monika Bukowska. Aside from the bright leotards and shameless frolicking that tends to frequent the stage, Brilliant Pebbles never ceases to weird everyone the fuck out. Not that it's a bad thing." -Pg74

(an online Interview 7/08)
.."With roots in psych punk, electronica, and the calculated sonic freakouts of a band on the brink of forging a new path, Brilliant Pebbles are an assault on the bland predictability of today's "indie" music that wouldn't have been out of place on the Bowery thirty years ago"- chicagoist
11/08 "You may think you have seen some crazy things in your lifetime, but I can honestly say you haven’t seen anything like Monika Bukowska and Brilliant Pebbles. Since their official public debut in February 2007, Brilliant Pebbles has remained original, entertaining, and always outrageous. However, they are more than just creative costumes, there is pounding rhythm, aggressive vocals, and complex and swirling keyboards. The band announced this week that they will be locking themselves away in the studio that Steve Albini built in late January to record their debut album. But if you can’t wait that long you can witness their wild performance yourself" .-thedelimagazine.com
