Bringing Back Kerouac (BBK) is a monthly poetry and music open mic night every 1st Tuesday of the month at Bar 35 ~ 35 N. Hotel Street in Honolulu. 8:30pm-11pm. Bar open till 2am.
The event was started on Election Day, November 7th 2006 literally as the Democrats regained power in Congress. The intent behind BBK is to encourage open-form poetry and art in Honolulu and to provide a platform for people to rock the mic without the stress of competition or the pressure to perform like a "slam poet."
The atmosphere is intimate and red, set in the downstairs area of Anna Bannana's, one of the oldest bars in Honolulu, formerly a WWII bomb shelter. Its biker-bar-alaskan-klondike-60s-rock-and-roll-hippie-retro-progressive-mod-antipretentious atmosphere attracts all the characters needed for the monthly play we call, "Bringing Back Kerouac." Hosted by Kathy X.
All over 21 are welcome, and this event is free!...for the time being. Original poems, cover poems, songs, short films, interpretive dance, and just about any other performances are all encouraged. Full bar available.
a caravan of freinds endulge the fan for nothing more than love and maybe a lil couriousity like Ginsberg before oreintations definition.
headphones glued to head it's cold in this Lowelled Mass "The Early History of Bop" screams saal tee nuts but still this is nothing.
went looking for a Mecca a giant wall painted with long black sideburns curled with the unsharpened pencils of Bodishattva still scribbleing and unstuttered rereading.
this cold chill shutter is just a Massachuettes wind thumbing through dead leaves and lifeless trees like tattered journal pages.
but this is just a stone trying it's hardest to represent a man whoes ashes dust the world one busted typewriter at a time
