Once upon a time in the early 1990s, 13yr old Emily set out to make mix tapes for all her friends. She wished more than anything that there was a way she could mix the songs together and form one continuous song to share with everyone.
Little did she know her wish would one day come true.
Emily arrived into the electronic dance music scene in the early 90’s. The first nu skool breakbeat record she ever heard captured her soul, and soon DJ MLe was born with a unique ear for the broken beat. After learning how to work the decks, she emerged
quickly in the Denver club scene as one of Colorado’s best in town. She obtained a weekly residency in the basement at Denver’s Club Vinyl, and soon was given her own weekend Friday night headlining slot. During her time at Vinyl, she had the opportunity to open up for and play alongside the worlds very best Dj’s and producers.
MLE has been the only woman in Colorado history to win Westword’s Best Club Dj award, awarded to Denver’s favorite Club Dj, presented to her in 2003. That same year she acclaimed the title of ‘the Breakbeat Goddess’, a title rightly given to a Dj that has consistently pounded new and intelligent breakbeat into the souls of Colorado’s club goers every weekend for the last 10 years. DJ mLe has truly been one of the pioneers in Colorado’s breakbeat scene.
Wicked smooth mixing skills, proper track selection for every crowd, and an unmatchable energy has elevated Dj mLe into a class above the rest. People have taken notice of this, and last year, Breaks FM contacted DJ MLE for a slot in their regular line up. Here, she has acquired fans all over the world and has been able to share her love of breaks with them. Stanton was next in line, and asked to sponsor MLE. Soon thereafter, At Large Entertainment brought MLE onto their 2007 roster. With Breaks FM, Stanton, and At Large behind her, she's been rocketed to the next level, and has begun touring around the US.
In the studio, MLe has been working on several different projects. In March 2006, she released the Dirty Girls vs Silas track “Daddy’s Little Girl” on Beatport. MLe has set out to create her very own album of dark and funky new school breaks with her vocals interlaced throughout, and plans to begin releasing tracks this next year.
Blessing the decks and airwaves with slammin breakbeats, deep bass, and female flavor, she has developed a masterful way of programming her sets for an evening of intelligent broken beats, hard bass lines, and smooth harmonic mixing.
