Brule & AIRO is a family group that started approx. 10 years ago. All this came to pass from a unexpected life journey for Paul/Brule. An adopted child at birth off a reservation, into a middle class family in southwest Minnesota. His whole life growing up never to be told of his true heritage, only of the truth of adoption. This secret only hidden to provide all opportunities of a full life to Paul. Which he had. He enjoyed many years of musical ventures all though childhood, teenage, and young adulthood. Unexpectedly one year his adopted parents passed away, leaving Paul mourning, and his wife, Kathy, searching for the lost answers to his true heritage. Adoption papers were found when the family home was gone through, which helped the search begin.
In 1995 he received a call from his long lost biological family, his brother. Which set into course a whirlwind of adventures to this place, so close to his childhood home. Within the first few seconds of setting foot onto this new home, Paul heard what was to become Brule inside himself. A combination of all the musical ventures in his past, and the new ones, all a part of him combined.
This is where the idea of this conteporary/native American music began. "If the sounds from all places can come together and make good music, than we as people can too!"
This message of peace and reconciliation is the driving force, and purpose for this group.
The members of AIRO, which is the rest of the family/group are,
Nicole- Daughter (Flutes)-Started with her father on the first live performance of the group, and has been along ever since.
Shane- Son (Guitars)-Finished out college, then joined the group right after.
Moses- Friend (Traditional Drums, percussion & vocals)-Joined in the spring of 2006
Kurt- Friend (Drum kit)-Plays with the group during larger shows
The group travels part of the time as a big show with traditional dancers, light show, video, and many other visual effects. The name for the regular traveling group and the big shows is AIRO, the American Indian Rock Opera.
