Sounds Like
New England Gothic Hiphop. Progressive, yet bitter.... sometimes expansive, yet often introspective....and other analytical scalpel-scraping.
At age 28, BRZOWSKI is laying his heart and mind open w/ all the desperation and explosive energy of a nervous breakdown coupled with a mid-life crisis. The Portland, ME by-way-of Swansea,MA emcee kicked around the Massachusetts and Rhode Island music scenes in varying projects since 1993, before taking a permanent vacation to the northeast tundra, where long winters and unsuspecting audiences could better nurture his creative spirits / personal demons. Joining forces with producer/technophile-at-large AGENT8 in the studio and settling in with disc-jockey extraordinaire/tour psychologist GRAYMATTER on stage, he has been steadily amassing a sizable groundswell of indie hip-hop true believers who clamor for something more artfully substantial than the mainstream stranglehold can spoon-feed them. BRZOWSKI's music contains many truly atypical aspects: lengthy songs, techno/industrial influenced beats, literary and visual culture references, a touch of the defiance of early 90's punk rock, and a dark cloud behind every silver lining. Winning poetry slams, consistently ranking in the finals in mc battles, tour stints with Sage Francis, Epic and Galapagos4, as well as playing to packed clubs opening for the likes of Hangar 18,Busy Bee, Killah Priest, Atmosphere, Sole, jdwalker, Murs, Dalek, Brother Ali, Doug E. Fresh, Josh Martinez, Grand Buffet, DJ Vadim, Astronautalis, Sleep, Moshe, K-the-I???, members of the Shapeshifters, and myriad others have cemented BRZOWSKI a reputation for quality live performance. BRZOWSKI is set to drop a new studio album in the coming year (to follow-up his critically acclaimed debut MaryShelleyOverdrive), steadily racking up compilation and guest spots on labels spanning the western hemisphere, and all while scrambling to continue a hectic performing schedule. For the New England Gothic herald of poetic doom, the future appears curiously luminous.
The first official BRZOWSKI release in 3 years, Blooddrive Vol.2 is now available on P.O.E./MilledPavement Records. It consists of 23 tracks spanning 2004-2008, including new, rare, and out-of-print songs, as well as guest spots by New England legends such as K-the-I???, Onepersun, Nomar Slevik, and Moshe, as well as European titans Xndl, Dj Extend and Monsieur Sai. This release is but a teaser for the searing proper full-length A Fitful Sleep to be released in late 2009.
If you have been sleeping, consider this the alarm.
(This release will be available at www.milledpavement.com, Bull Moose Music, Newbury Comics, Access Hiphop, Phonographique, Vinylkingz, and fine underground music retailers everywhere)
