    Buddy Peace's Interests
General
- from Jimmy Corrigan, The Smartest Kid On Earth
One of the most beautifully crafted graphic novels you could wish for...

...on top of that - MPCs, shitty second hand keyboards and random noise making electronics, bullhorns and megaphones, the incredible miss Sophie Webb (aka Mrs Peace), deer and successfully avoiding running deer (some close calls dammit), late night politicking (if I don't fall asleep first - you'll see), getting my walk on for many hours, gamelan, Barcelona and its residents, America, cranberries, Garrison Keillor, four tracks and tape hiss, second hand records by the crate, super 8 cameras, Zip discs, the Spectrum 128k (if you had one of these, holler at me), the Amiga 500, old photos and slides, recording day to day people drama on minidisc now and again (word to Coma Emilio) – the kebab shop fight was pretty intense, drones, hella coffee, veganism and vegan cupcake science, tape echoes, and The Wire. And much more...

Respect that.

About me:

SAGE FRANCIS : 'Sick Of Wasting'

Available now as a free (but donatable) download and limited signed CD (click picture for main link), this is the next step in Sage's almighty 'Sick Of...' series. You'll surely know and remember 'Sick Of Waiting Tables' and 'Still Sick... Urine Trouble' among the rest, from all them years ago, and here is the next installment.

I myself was introduced to most of Sage's music through these compilations (which I ordered from Hip Hop Infinity no less - imagine that...), as well as the early Sixtoo collabs and such, and I like the idea of those who are perhaps unfamiliar with the Strange Famous past and present finding this and enjoying it. It is very enjoyable. You'll dig it. Whatever version you go for, have fun yo.

I had several contributions on the album (including a surprise Reanimator collabo), which you'll be able to read more about with the liner notes, or here. The list of collaborators is immense though and you'll find B. Dolan, Buck 65, Reanimator, my man my mellow Aupheus and the grand Curtis Plum, among others from the SFR mob.

Sick shit.

* 'WE NOD' shop - top 5 listing
...from the good folks at We Nod in Japan

I was asked by Jun at We Nod to supply a few answers for their yearly selection of 'top' lists, and you can check it HERE if you get some time. To cut it short, I chose the 'Dirtbike' trilogy by Buck 65, 'Resurgam' by Alias, 'The Ugly Truth' by Prolyphic & Reanimator, 'Fun DMC' by People Under The Stairs and 'Time To Run' by Tempa. There are a couple of write ups there too. Nice!

* BUCK 65 'Dirtbike' Volumes 1-3
available now...

(image link will take you to Buck 65's website)

There are three volumes of a new Buck 65 project entitled 'Dirtbike', which you can get for free download from a few places on the internet - here are the links :

* Dirtbike Part 1
* Dirtbike Part 2
* Dirtbike Part 3

I was lucky enough to be a part of all three projects in various degrees, and me and Buck collaborated on a couple of tracks on each installment. I also did the intros for all three (Buck provided the original source beat for part 1 though). It's hard to speak without bias but I've been listening almost exclusively to these over the last few months and they are just insane. They destroy... They're free too - if you haven't met them yet, acquaint yourself with the swiftness. Rich put in crazy hard work with these and it all shines through with a blinding brightness. Get on it! And thanks to Rich for inviting me aboard. It was amazing.

You can find out some more info HERE - he runs down the plot and describes the contributions, which is enough to make you say, at the very least, "well good goddamn...". Check him out.

Also, you can hear Buck on the radio in Canada, or streamed to the world :

* 'WOLF DIESEL MOUNTAIN'

...available NOW on 2600 RECORDINGS!

Here are some words from 2600! This says it all in a way I couldn't...

"...Buddy Peace has been championing a slow-burning revolution in mixtapes for over five years now. His pedigree is unchallenged - 'A Friendly Game Of Chess' (with fellow 2600 accomplice ZILLA ), 'Watch And Repeat Play' for the Warp Vision DVD and last years' 'Commonwealth Kids' mix with Bully Records' Carlo - pushing the boundaries and expectations of what a mix could be.

'Wolf Diesel Mountain' is a monster fed on the bones of all that have gone before it. This is a mix that is complex and diverse - slices and selections of nearly 100 tracks in under an hour. Samples are chopped, beats are re-programmed and tracks are fully remixed - without ever falling into the common trap of mixes that veer off on tangents to show off the DJ's record collection.

Not that Buddy hasn't got a collection worth losing limbs for - but the genius here lies in the construction. This is a mix of broken hearts and block parties, unfaithful guitars and dusty drums. There is a journey here, a narrative of disparate elements combined, like the best indie film you never saw. But like every good mix it still bumps, leaving your spine aching and your head bristling with hopes of redemption.

In short, this is how mixes should be: inventive, heavy, restrained and beautiful...
"

...and here are some kind words from some undisputed champs!

"Wolf Diesel Mountain is simply a masterpiece of eclecticism, sewn together by dead man's drums. It stomps across genres picking out all the best music you were too stupid to buy, gives you a little taste and, before you know what's happened, it barrels off in a different direction. A triumph, and a lesson in how life affirming mixtapes can be - all hail Buddy Peace!"
- Bracken (Anticon)

"Buddy Peace is no slacker. His mixes are full of edits, attention to detail, and a lifetime's worth of entertaining dialogue snippets. He's got a real talent in creating new moods and isn't afraid to let tracks breathe and develop. Wolf Diesel Mountain plays like a documentary with no picture. Put your headphones on and listen as Buddy's cast of heroes, villains, and weirdoes take you on an entertaining journey"
- Controller 7 (Bully Records)

"All the songs are totally reworked with said indy/post/etc. rock elements... not just guitar samples, not just drums, but all elements of the song are interpolated... everything is seamlessly blended. Buddy also switches up the sample rates up especially on a couple of the breaks which I like. No scratch solos or beat juggling. Not random or quirky for the sake of horned rimmed glasses and stupid kissing circles. Thematically there's more to it which I haven't quite grasped, yet. The Liars (Grown Men Don't Fall Into the River... one of my favorite Liars songs)/Edan combo was definitely one of my favorite parts, and on a lot of the tracks, it sounds like Buddy gives equal share of the spotlight on the rock band vs. the MC so you appreciate the dynamics of the song structures more than say a Grey Album type mix only with the source material chopped to hell then suffocated to death under the weight of the accapella. Almost no filler, I will be listening to this again at work, several times in succession. It's mastered well and released on an actual CD (not CD-R) with cool simple packaging."
- Rajbot

* Here's a dope feature from Mark of the ace Needsnowater Records, on the 3 Bar Fire site :
...link here
Thank you Mark!

I hooked it all together with turntables and the MPC in one way or another (with a lot of other tools and bits & pieces), and it took a pretty long time. This was mostly due to various moves here and there and a lot going on! I hope you enjoy it if you get round to checking it and definitely give me a shout if you want to! There's a minimix on my profile (which you're probably hearing now) which is the whole thing in a whirlwind edit (with unheard pieces from along the way), so have listen first if you like.

* Write up on 'Like A Scientist' - word to Masaru! : ...here
* Write up on 'Slutty Fringe' : ...here
* Write up on 'Left Hand Side' : ...here

* 'WOLF DIESEL MOUNTAIN :
'Deer Blood Falls'
podcast feature...

The ultrafriendly folks at 3 BAR FIRE have hosted a podcast I made for the mix, which has most of the original tracks I used for it in their original form. Well, sort of original - I've edited them pretty severely and chopped them up a bit but just for fluidity and to shorten them a touch! There's no tracklist really but if you don't know the tracks and you want to know more then just gimme a holler and I'll help you out. Hope you like it. * SIL-X : 'Sil-X' EP

* MYUZYK Netlabel : 'Inspired By Boards Of Canada' Compilation

AVAILABLE NOW for free download -

* SIL-X EP
* Inspired By Boards Of Canada

DOUBLE FEATURE!
Here are two of the MYUZYK Netlabel releases I've contributed to so far, now including the more recent remix I submitted for the Sil-X EP.
For the Boards one, I ended up making a two parter, which is called 'Collapse Suite, Autumn 1974'. I took some of the more hip hop elements of their music with some 70's dialogue and tones - it was a lovely project to be involved in, and a pleasure to make music that is directly inspired and paying respect to a group I've been into for years...

No-Tribe – the truth ain..t black & white
This project got the simple aim to generate the listener..s full emotions. A 50 minute opus that is not dealing with any regularities or is caught by any mental borders. The mix is packed full of material which cannot just be classified with a certain music genre as it is influenced by several music cultures and is therefore appealing different groups of music enthusiasts.
