Introducing Cake for Lily
Mining a heady mixture of acoustic Americana and English folk.
Playing music for summer days and smoky campfire evenings, Cake for Lily is an acoustic duo born of a love of English folk and 1960’s inspired Americana, along with a strong DIY and community ethic.
Through the shifting textures and layers of guitar, mandolin and lap steel guitar from multi-instrumentalist Kieran Binnie - together with Jon Gibbins’ exposed vocal lines - Cake for Lily present a dreamy musical vision so pretty and wistful it aches; however this never strays into the realm of the twee: inspired by the likes of Ryan Adams, Neko Case and Eliza Carthy, there is a hidden undercurrent to the songs that lends a bittersweet edge.
The debut release The Boy With Pomegranates In His Eye is now available directly from the band, and features a supporting cast of stripped down percussion and string quartet and vocal harmony accompaniment, as well as community participation from local photographers, film makers and graphic designers.
