Cameo, is the product of genius of Larry Blackmon, Julliard trained musician and producer. Conceptually, the name of the band rose from the idea of someone making a cameo appearance or cameo role. The whole concept was to have a group individually as strong as it was as a whole. And strong they are, producing thick, rich grooves that will make any head bob and many a booty shake.
Cameo, proving that a tight funk is a good funk has has released two albums worth checking out. The first album is their previously unreleased on CD version of We All Know Who We Are. This album hearkens back to 1977, and although Cameos roots were based George Clinton's Parliament and Funkadelic, they created their own sound of Funk by using a heavy bass sound paired with a strong synth to create a truly original sound. All seven tracks on this album is truly right on. We All Know Who We Are starts out with the song Inflation. "A pack of cigarettes for two dollars? You've gotta be crazy man!" and ends with the bittersweet ballad It's Over. Meanwhile, we are treated to the tasty treat of the funk anthem It's Serious and the perrenial C on the Funk. If you are a fan of funk, or of Cameo, this is the album to check out!
The next release from Cameo is The Ballads Collection, a set of 12 of Cameos, most soothing, loving and g-roovy tracks. With the smooth stylings of Sparkle, to the heart tugging I Owe It All To You, Cameo proves that few can kick out a power ballad as tender as they can. Their ballads are filled with some of the beefiest bass tracks you will ever hear, paired with great harmonies, and hip swaying magnificence. You don't want to miss out on this release!
