Campbell-Ruddock are a latin guitar duo with a difference. Energy, passion and a lust for rhythm are high on the agenda. Able to engage and hypnotise any audience with intrinsic rhythms, melody and dynamic harmony’s. Together they have been described as “Unbelievable” and as a “Raw talent”. Campbell-Ruddock seem capable of anything - new, exciting and fresh. Drawing on music at large, bringing an eclectic and striking take on the term "new music".
James Campbell started his musical career as a drummer, playing in bands since the age of 12. He wanted more and started to learn guitar. He has supported many acts, including Dave Stuart, Judy Tzuke and Tony Moore amongst others, both as a solo artist, and as a member of several bands. He has always been fascinated with intrinsic and distinctive rhythm patterns, which has lead to him becoming immersed in learning the technique and rhythms of Latin guitar. This is synonymous with recent performances in the south west, where he is known for his distinct and distinguished style.
John Ruddock has been playing music since the age of 8, starting as a classical guitarist. He later took up the cello and djembe and has performed professionally in youth orchestras, string quartet’s, and his African drumming group supported Zairian folk guitarist Abdul Teejay among other world music artists. He has played guitar in various outfits covering numerous genres, and has studied popular music to degree level.
After meeting through work the two decided to share a drink and play a few tunes, and over time developed in to a writing and performing act, that play their own brand of Latin fuelled soothing, moving songs, that produce great clarity and tone: an act not to be missed.
