Pop music, fevered, drowned in reverb, and innocent, remarks with irony, a filmed reenactment of an overdose. It was intended that Candy Bars be composers of an incidental style. Failure. Incidental music created with intention remains unintelligible.
11 song debut CD, "..ting Ti-Gers in Half and Understanding Narravation" (New Granada - NG011) currently available in Compact Disc and Digital Download formats.
"Candy Bars persevere in creating a true work of art" - Under the Radar
"Candy Bars bring weird little abstract worlds to life with seemingly nonsensical lyrics that occasionally flash with cogency, it's like listening to a crazy man who might once have been a genius... There are Beach Boys breezes on the echo-wonderful 'Violets' and 'The Birthday Song' sounds like Mercury Rev...It's all tethered to Martinez's elusive voice, which gets more and more believable as it moves toward peculiar places." - Magnet

So the other day I was going through CDs and I found one of the Candy Bars EPs. I was like, "Hey, aren't there songs on this that aren't on the Narravation album?" Sure enough, there was School Party! I grabbed it and put it on my iPod along with the rest of the Candy Bars songs. The next day, I was jamming to School Party and it was great. Or so I thought...
That night, I woke up from a nightmare I can't remember. But the line "My favorite medication teacher... Jesus" was stuck in my head. Now the rest of the lyrics of the song escaped me so it was just "My favorite medication teacher... Jesus" running through my head over and over again. I started having a panic attack as that line cascaded violently through my poor defenseless brain destroying everything in its path.
After meditating and telling myself a very long and complicated story in my head, I was able to fall asleep. I still listen to School Party and I've even began learning some of the other lyrics. True story.
So I was in Chicago over the weekend to see Magnetic Fields. The guy working the merch table was wearing a Candy Bars t-shirt! his name was Mike F,and he said to tell you hi.
lovely to run into you 2. I'm glad I didn't come for wine after because I barely made my flight! :) Jason was jealous he wasn't with me... :( much love always..
