We just released our fourth CD called Lé La published by Indies Scope Records. You can watch our brand new video ZUHA from this CD, which was shot in Pakistan.

Czech band Cankišou became famous in the Czech Republic and also abroad for its concerts full of energy and wild rhythms. Concerts run by singer Karel Herman who is very impressive not only because of his voice but also his figure become wild dance parties few minutes after beginning. Cankišou mixes influences from various ethnics with rock roots and with its rich collection of exotic instruments travels the world from Réunion island in an Indian ocean to Pakistan.

Cankišou was established at a Christmas party in 1999 by rock musicians. They put together various exotic and common rock instruments and started to explore world music field which was completely new for them at that time. Cankišou music is based on an old legend about one legged Canki people and the band also learnt their language. Within nearly 10 years of existence the band has become one of the top world music bands in the Czech republic and has travelled 13 countries so far.

Cankišou published several successful CD..s: first CD called Music of the Canki people (Hudba lidu Canki, 2000) is full of energy and passion from new meeting/exploring with world music. More thoughtful Densé ju (2002) includes tittle Mongolian folk song, which was brought by singer Karel Herman from a festival in Mongolia. Third Gamagaj (2004) is inspired by a book Baudolino by Umberto Eco (all by FT Records). New CD called Lé La was published in spring 2008 by Indies Scope Reocrds. The CD is inspired mainly by many long journeys and fusions with local musicians the band did in last two years. Sain Zahoor appears as a guest in song called Zuha.

In 2007 a book with soundtrack Ukopnuty palec aneb Pribehy lidu Canki was released. It..s a collection of 13 stories about Canki people by 13 authors. The soundtrack consists of 13 songs where each one is inspired by one story and composed by one of the Cankisou musician. You can listen to few songs here.

About the Canki people
The Canki people (the Single-legged) are only vaguely recorded in legends handed down in sacred texts. We can find notes about them in some records from the Middle Ages too, such as a Mandevill..s travel book (John Mandevill - about 1300-1372, an English doctor, mathematician and traveller). He writes there: ". and in that country there are people on some hills who have only one leg but who are more handy than the others. The leg is so big that being risen it gives shadow to all body when the person is lieing." It is possible to draw conclusions from these documents that the original place where the Canki people lived was in a small area in desert fields in the mountains between today..s Turkey and Syria. They used their big and developed leg not only to move but to create shadow in open sandy areas. (see a picture by Arthur Layard - from an English issue by C. Grant, Westminster 1895).

This makes clear why they carried a crutch all the time. Stuck in soil it was used as a support for their big leg. Nations migrated a lot in that time as we can read in the Mandevill..s travel book. Especially The Canki people migrated a lot because they were undesirable at various places. We can say the Canki people were multicultural nation and their ethnographical placement isn..t exact. Due to the migration many people died and even Mandevill considers them as a human exceptionality - monsters (see a picture, czech print of the Mandevill..s travel book from 1600).

The Canki people, as other nations in that time, spoke (sang) so-called original language, called "Syrian" or "Sun" language. This rhytmical language by which, according to the legends, life was delivered to people, can be traced only with difficulties today, maybe only among the oldest Arabian-African tribes.
