Our friends at Superbank Movies in Australia used our track "So Long" from the Charlie Don't Surf EP on this sweet surf video over at GO211.com
Formed in early 2006 as a three piece punk band, Captain Bud quickly gained a local following of punks, surfers, stoners, skaters and misfits while playing the local live music dives.
Gaining a reputation as a crazy party band, the bud branched out around the SouthWest surf towns of England and quickly found they could entertain people in any venue from punk rock pits to trendy bars. This had a lot to do with the genre defying sound the band was forging. Consisting of dub, reggae, folk, rockabilly and of course punk rock. Their high-energy shows are an awesome experience, one minute you’re witnessing the madness of a full scale mosh pit and the next you're grooving to a deep dub bass line with the smell of ganja in the air.
Spreading the relaxed vibes of the South West UK surf scene Captain Bud take influences from around the world. Bands like Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, Social D and NOFX all play a heavy part in influencing the Buds sound. The Kingston dub vibes of Lee Scratch Perry, the aloha surf sounds of Jack Johnson, and of course the politically charged anger of UK punk rock can all be heard too! Through these influences the band has managed to forge its own unique sound and party vibe that any one can be part of.
In 2006 the band released its first independent EP entitled “Charlie Don’t Surf” this rough demo was received well by reviewers and fans alike and the band sold over 1000 copies through myspace and at shows. Then in 2007 the band created it's own DIY label PipeLine Records and released their second album "Wicked Woman" to a worldwide audience. PipeLine Music as it's now known has grown into a family of bands and friends all with the same mission...to spread good vibes and party!
Now signed to Long Beach Records Europe, Captain Bud have released the Unite album. Their best work to date, Unite out sold the bands previous offerings on pre-orders alone! 2008 was a huge year for the band having shared the stage with the UK's biggest punk/reggae band the King Blues on 2 occasions, opening for Pepper at their first UK headline show as well as touring the UK on the 20 date Roots Tour.
With the help of good friends, crazy fans and some kick ass bands, Captain Bud are on a mission to build the UK rock reggae scene brick by brick and 2009 looks to be a big year for the Bud with the promise of new material and a big UK tour.

With songs titles like San Diego and West Coast Girl you could be forgiven for mistaking Captain Bud for a new group straight out of SoCal. Especially when you hear the band’s sound, which is a delicious mix of punk and feel good reggae.
Instead Captain Bud is actually from the good old UK and it is only when you hear blistering Maiden like solos on San Diego, the snotty punk of Not Your Problem and the British samples on Unite Dub that reveal the band's true roots.
Unite features hook-laden songs like the instrumental Red Eye Spy and Any Other Way, which hit that perfect mellow groove, that is until the thrash punk explodes unexpectedly in the latter song’s last minute. Still, these tracks are just nice little warm ups for the album highlights West Coast Girl and The Ganja Man, both featuring some sweet sax work by Bean.
As with most EPs they tend to usually leave you a little unsatisfied due to their short length. I also think in Captain Bud’s case a longer release would have benefited, allowing the band to add some more of its own individual flourishes to its heavily influenced California sound. Yet, Unite is still a fun album worth purchasing... even if the dollar is shithouse against the pound.

Hey! I'm always looking for bands that follow the Sublime's legacy and there's this blog where some guy is always posting info and videos of new bands and albums and there was this promo video of your album, googled you, found your myspace, listened to your songs and I really liked them. I got to tell you that you don't sound like a British band at all, you guys sound so...cheered up, in a respectful way to the other bands of UK,The Clash is one of my favorite bands. Anyway, is so cool that people from such different places can be united for this feeling. You should come one day to Costa Rica, you would love it, play some music and check the "bloody" awesome surf here. Regards! Pura Vida!
