Carla Pires started to sing at music contests in 1993. After getting a degree in Performing Arts in 1995, Carla Pires continued her start up career as actress and singer by the recording of several soundtracks for TV series.
In July of 2000 due to the exposure granted by TV, where she also played roles as actress, Carla was invited to the biggest musical ever produced in Portugal – AMÁLIA, in which she performed, for almost 4 years, the role of Amália Rodrigues at youth.
Actually, Carla Pires sings at “Clube do Fado”, one of the most important fado clubs located in the old neighborhood of Lisbon – Alfama.
Discography: In May of 2002, Carla Pires released the CD “O Fado em Concerto” backed by a classical string quartet.
In June of 2005, Carla Pires released ”ILHA DO MEU FADO” (“ISLAND OF MY FADO”) edited by OCARINA label. This CD is a musical journey through fado, with songs from different origins and roots that, somehow or somewhere, changed the scope of fado. Several tracks of this CD were licensed for collections in Portugal, France, England, The Netherlans ans Korea. The next CD of Carla Pires will be released in March 2010.

(Received March 14,2008) Dear Miss Pires I just wanted to thank You so much for the wonderful evening You gave us in Vienna yesterday! After the last Fado concert of Mariza in Vienna I just loved Your deep emotional interpretations without those virtuosity show-effects. And Your voice, and Your players, and, not to forget, Your dress, which beats every robe of any Oscar celebration :-)
It is wonderful to see that Fado (unlike the old Viennese Music)is not dying away together with the old singers, but so many young artists carry on with this beautiful Music and -to an outsider- seem accepted by the old ones. In the Alfama (a place opposite to Museo do fado) I listened to singers from 16 to 80+ in one place on one evening. Unthinkable in Vienna.
Hopefully we will see/hear You again in Vienna - but next time please without microphone!!
Do You plan a new CD? If so PLEASE include YOUR Barca Negra! (Besides from a 80 Year old lady in this Fadoplace - in complete darkness - I haven't heard this song more impressive)
