Calexico is a band from Tucson, Arizona that shares a sun-bleached border with many performers and musical styles. Comprised of two core members, Joey Burns and John Convertino, Calexico became its own entity in 1996 with the release of the Spoke LP. A wide variety of tours, performances (including the Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals) and recording sessions as Calexico and with other artists (Neko Case, Victoria Williams, Richard Buckner, Iron & Wine) allowed the band the opportunity to develop as artists. Over time, Calexico has featured a revolving cast of musicians and instruments, with a core group that solidified around 'Feast of Wire', (Volker Zander, Martin Wenk, Jacob Valenuela and Paul Niehaus) The band's sonic growth can be traced through its varied releases.
Two years after "Garden Ruin", Calexico has returned and is offering up "Carried To Dust", the new full-length record due September 9, 2008.
This new record is a shining example of Calexico's commitment to constantly molting and redefining who they are. A continued examination of their sources of inspiration, "Carried To Dust" is the next step in Calexico's ongoing quest of moving forward while never turning its back on the past.
Along with extending the collaborative bridges with other artists, "Carried To Dust" also reflects Calexico's amazing live shows, as well as underscoring the band's restraint and beauty. A remarkably well-rounded album, "Carried To Dust" showcases every aspect of Calexico's exceptional talents.

Yes! It really is true! They have finally finnished mixing Obscure Lanes. I don't even believe it myself! Up on their myspace you'll find three simply great songs that you haven't heard before. Two of them will appear on the album and the third one is an obscurity that they simply didn't know what to do with. All three songs on their myspace (and offcourse all of the songs on Obscure Lanes!) has everything that you have come to associate Everyday Mistakes with, and yet so much more: Mattias haunting croon (sounding more desperate and honest, but still more dynamic, ballanced and complete, than ever before), Mattias haunting lyrics (about the inner and outer waste lands), the haunting minor-chord chord progressions (leading you straight out to the very outskirts of the world) etc etc..
Great vocalist, great lyrics, great songs, great arrangements and great production - Everyday Mistakes have got it all!
If you are a fan of David Lynch, Gregory Crewdson and the early records of Chris Isaak you'll adore them!

The synchronic vibration between object and metaphor is the magical part of beauty that my artwork seeks out. My idea is that all objects, be they old containers, art works, art supplies, tree roots, or concepts themselves, continually vibrate frequencies of meaning in a continuum of metaphorical… Manifesto continues at www.kenboe.com - Come visit one of my art shows in January.
