About me:
Welcome to my page. In case you're wondering who the heck I am, let me tell you a bit about myself. I'm originally from Memphis, but I joined the US Navy shortly after graduating high school. Soon after, I was stationed in San Diego, where I served in the military for four years. After my duty was up, I remained in San Diego and enrolled in college. I received a AA in Psychology from Mesa College in 1997. While attending Mesa College, I became inspired to write after attending a poetry reading in 1995. At this time I began to write my first book, A Man’s State of Mind(Click here to read an excerpt).
After graduating with my Masters degree from San Diego State, I returned to my childhood home of Memphis. I currently work as a professor of English and run Center Court Basketball, a basketball recruitment website.
Well enough about me. Check out the book webpages and read the excerpts. If your interested in purchasing the books, please visit my website CB Publishing, or go to the CB Publishing Store. Later
Who I'd like to meet: Visit my videos page to check out the videos from my Spring 2007 Creative Writing Students at LeMoyne-Owen College. The students chose a historical location in Memphis that was relevant to Black history. It is amazing how little people actually know about the history of their own cities. Anyway check out these videos. You will need Windows Media Player, go to my videos page to check out the clips. The students and locations are listed below.
Corey Green - Burkle Estate: A house where the Underground Railroad stopped in Memphis.
Marcey Evans - Mason Temple: Dr. King made his last speech at this church before he was murdered at the Lorraine Motel.
Ahamedi Ali - Elmwood Cemetery: Over 300 slaves are buried here in a mass grave.
Rod Mathis - Fort Barras: The block at this location is purported to be an slave auction block. However after research, the students found that slaves were sold at the Negro Mart on Adams Street
Markell Eskridge - Nathan Bedford Forrest Park: Forrest was the founder of the KKK.
Michaelyn Oby - Stax Records: Stax Records is Soulsville USA, the home of American soul music.
Myeshia Reaves - WC Handy Park: WC Handy is known as the Father of the Blues. His home and park are located on Beale Street.
Antonio Jones - Tom Lee Park: Tom Lee rescued over 30 people, with a paddle boat, when a ship sank in the Mississippi River.
Yolonda Spinks - LeMoyne-Owen College: LOC is one of the oldest HBCU's in the country.
