Well what can I say...? After playing guitar and singing in various rock and cover bands for almost seven years, I took some time off only to find that I am not at my best when I am not playing music. I went back to music this time for fun and to get back to my roots. Back to the honesty of truly great songwriters and the country music that made sense and changed people's lives. A good friend of mine introduced me to Red Dirt Music. I'm not a huge fan of labels and I don't think that all music can be categorized, but I am proud to say that in this family, I found my songwriting fit. When I decided to give playing shows a try I was still driving an 18 wheeler across this great nation of ours, so shows were pretty few and far between but I had alot of time to spend with my songwriting. After about six months of playing shows in my little bit of free time I decided that it was time to change my focus. In January of 2007 i decided to play full time and try to keep myself alive solely with my guitar. Well, its been a year now and has been a fantastic year of ramen noodles, music, and living on the road. When I began this journey I was playing for tips and free beer in any place that would have me, then as fate would have it I moved to Stillwater, Ok. The " Austin" of Oklahoma if you will. In the last year I have had the pleasure of meeting and playing with some of the greatest names in the scene. I have had the opportunity to share the stage with such great folks as: Johnny Cooper, Scott Evans, Brandon Jenkins, Scott Copeland, The Great Divide, Jason Boland, Mike McClure, Bleu Edmondson, No Justice, Tom Skinner and some great up and coming bands in the scene: The Paul Daniels Band, From The Ashes, Ordinary Outlaws, The Turnpike Troubadours,The Nick Gibson Band and The Dom McClenney Band. I have also shared the stage with some great songwriters like, Gib Stones, Brad Good, Kyle Nix, Van Marsalis, and Eric Butler. All of these people I am proud to call my friends. ( And this is just the first year) I have been to some of the greatest towns and met some of the greatest people in Oklahoma and Texas, people who have fed me and put me up for the night ,,,,after only meeting me once. Now, that's hospitality. That is why I love my job. I am half way through with my first record and have assembled a band to start playing louder than ever. I am looking forward to 2008 being an exciting year in Texas and Oklahoma Red Dirt Music.
