My name is Chantelle Constable, I am 20 years old, and I like to sing. Any further questions? Oh, ok...
I grew up in Kansas, and I still live in Kansas. Last year (2008) I made a three-month excursion to New York City to attend the Bernstein Festival, and this spring (June 2009) I toured Europe with my choir, the Flint Hills Masterworks Chorale. These two trips really solidified my core dream: To travel the world and share my love of music with people.
I am a classically trained lyric soprano, and I have a solid background in piano as well. My musical foundation is really rooted in choral singing: I joined my first choir (The Columbian Youth Choir, Wamego, KS) at age ten and have been a "choir junkie" ever since. I have been granted the honor of singing solos in ever choir I have been a member of, including the state-wide Golden Belt Vocal Festival at age 15. I began singing with the Flint Hills Masterworks Chorale when I was 16, and my musical life still revolves around this group of fantastic people. More great solo opportunities were given to me as a member of the Summer Chorus (which is, along with the FHMC, directed by the wonderful Dr. Reg Pittman of K-State) and I was delighted to be able to sing as a soloist with the FHMC on a number of our European concerts.
One of the accomplishments I am most proud of is the release of my debut EP, "Treetops Glisten" in 2006. It was a modest effort, but entirely mine own, and while I like to think I am capable of much better things by this time, that four-song album was a great first step. Over the years I have been a competitor in multiple local talent shows, as well as a participator in non-competitive community musical events. I have sung the National Anthem three times at regional NATPA events in Wichita, KS, to the acclaim of all avid tractor-pulling fans present! (haha!)
Although my training has been mostly classical, I grew up with a passionate love for the "oldies"-- showtunes and jazz-- and when I was 16 I made a decided effort to develop my jazz vocal abilities. I have been avidly pursuing both musical styles since, and plan to continue doing so for many years to come. In the classical realm, my passion is not so much with opera (although I do love it!) but rather with "concert" work: the choral singing I have done for so long as well as oratorio and of course art song! Some of my favorite composers are Gustav Mahler, French composers such as Gabriel Faure and Ernest Chausson, and many modern American composers such as Leonard Bernstein, Ned Rorem, Charles Ives, and Ben Moore.
In my spare time I have a variety of interests, the more common-place of which are watching movies from the "classic Hollywood" era and collecting memorabilia from my favorite classic stars (Jerry Lewis is at the top of the list!). I collect vintage LPs as well, and listen to them almost as much as I do my iPod! I am an avid reader (I love mysteries!) and I enjoy taking candid snap-shots of the world around me with my never-far-out-of-reach digital camera. On the slightly nerdy side I enjoy working on the computer and have a smattering of web programing knowledge. At busier times in my life I attempt to maintain a blog, and I also enjoy writing fiction (which never sees the light of day). I can usually be found either in the local coffee shop or used book-store, and on certain days I even feel the urge to stay home and bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies (usually to give away). My favorite season is summer, and I love nothing more than to marvel at a beautiful summer night when the fireflies are so thick they rival the stars for brilliance...
Right now I am continuing my education through private music lessons and classes at Kansas State University. In addition to performing I am also fascinated by music history and conducting, but I don't have further education plans determined at this time. I have a collection of songs that I have been preparing over the past few years and am ready to go into the studio with-- once certain resources become available! I'd like to thank the kind people who have enjoyed my recordings so far, especially Karl Jenkins' "Ave Verum" (it's my favorite, too!) and I hope to reward your patience with a great new set of songs one of these days very soon.
The world is round The rain comes but once a week The globe where we all live, In our blue skies above Looking for what we all do want, The spirit of peace and love
Wanting that baby in our arms to hold Watching a friendship grow From birth to days of old As the tears roll down When all is not good And we smile when The sun does come again
Seeking angels, In pastures of green, Weeping children, And, Hunger pains to cry We look to God, In prayers of forgiveness In asking ourselves, why
The world is round This globe where we all live, Under blue skies of grey cloud We fight wars, and we fight to be proud We feed the hungry, we defend the poor, Then we look to the heavens, And ask for more
Wanting that baby in our arms to hold, Not wishing for a babies tears to cry As the tears roll down When all is not good And we smile when The sun does come again
Seeking angels, In pastures of green, Weeping children, And, Hunger pains to cry We look to God, In prayers of forgiveness In asking ourselves, why
As the tears roll down When all is not good And we smile when The sun does come again
The world is round This globe where we all live We feed the hungry, we defend the poor, Then we look to the heavens, And ask for more
As the tears roll down When all is not good And we smile when The sun does come again We smile, when we know Tomorrow will reign
