"Charlie Slick. This is the greatest thing in the entire world. I’ve become complacent in the fight against the ‘hands in pocket / head slightly nodding’ approach to enjoying live music. This guy took an entire room and gave them absolutely no choice other than to dance. I took approximately 18 bubbles to the mouth area, and my shoes were covered in glitter. I can’t really provide a report in detail, but the next day I would hum some tune and then blurt out “..with my synthesizers.” Just go to every show he ever does."
Last weekend, I caught Ann Arbor’s Charlie Slick at a house party in Woodbridge. Between the confetti, the glitter, the smoke machine and the dudes hanging from the light fixture (literally), I didn’t hear much of the music. But their — it was two guys, I think — Myspace (myspace.com/charlieslick) has four songs for you to check out. They’re pretty catchy in a hipster-kids-get-sequencer-and-then-do-electro-vocal-freakout-and-half-rap-over-it sorta way. Fun, dance-y, whatever.
But it’s the spirit I like most. CS had the crowd going crazy like they rarely do (anymore? rumor has it people in, like, the ‘60s danced or something) at rock shows. And Charlie Slick will be keeping kids dancing at their upcoming house party show in Ypsilanti on July 28, Barnfest in Ann Arbor on August 10 and The Elbow Room on August 24. It’s just a hunch, but I’m betting CS will play a few more house parties this summer. Keep an eye online. | RDW"
.... Lucky for us, Charlie Slick went on around 2:30 to give us a break and initiate a dance party. Charlie Slick is a fucking machine and he means serious business. He shows up and it’s like “Alright you monkeys. I’m gonna play some songs and you’re going to dance. And even if you think you’re not going to dance, I will fucking make you dance. And I will throw glitter on you and blow bubbles at you and you’re going to eat this shit up because I am awesome.” And he does and we do and he is and then I black out and wake up at 3pm on Sunday with a pounding headache and glitter in my hair.
The First official Charlie Slick show took place at the former "Totally Awesome House" in Ann Arbor on February 8th of 2005. Since then I, Charlie Slick have played more then 200 shows, ranging from House parties to Festival Stages. My shows have been described as a high energy dance party. Lights, Glitter, Bubbles, Confetti and Time travel are trade marks of my presence, along with catchy synthesizers licks and chant-able chorus'. Along the way I was lucky enough to meet and team up with Andy Gabrysiak, who is responsible for most of the artwork associated with the Charlie Slick brand. Andy was my number 2 on stage until Shelley took his place in Early 2008. Shelley is the coolest girl I've ever known, and just recently started playing bass for Detroit punk rockers TYVEK. In her absence, Chris Sandon of Dirty Brothers Productions stepped in on the Keys, and I now play shows in any combination of Chris, Shelley, and I. Since 2005, I've released 4 full enough albums. Pass the time machine (2005), Walter Carlos (2007), Edward Murphy (2008), In my Room (2008). I was nominated for Best Electronic Artist by the Detroit music awards in 2008, and Best Electronic Album for Edward Murphy in 2009. I am currently in the Studio for my 5 Album, Elron Hubbard which I hope to self release with distribution in late 2009 followed by an extensive tour. What does the future hold for Charlie Slick? I'm not totally sure, but I do know that I will never quit. See you around.
Just a torrent of Mustache Comments on Charlie Slick's page. Hopefully we'll be rocking shows together for years to come. We'll hit you up in Michigan eventually.
I saw that MC Mystery posted below me, but I logged on here to tell you that I've been listening to Pass The Time Machine on repeat since my birthday. I love it. I plan on buying more of your cds next time you come through.
so i saw you at cityfest and i have to say i now categorize my life by two section of time; pre-charlie slick and post-charlie slick, and let me tell you the pre-charlie slick half does not compare to the 2-3 days of the post-charlie slick era.
dear charlie slick, i had the privilege to see you perform on thursday, and i was very impressed, as i watched your set each song constantly topped the next. As well, your stage presence was worth the price of admission.... truly you are my hero, and i mean that. i really enjoyed the dancing, the bubbles, the glitter, and the music. i hope i can see you perform again.
I just saw you for the first time on thursday and i thought you were amazing! I dont know the name of the song but the one about the best friend moving to chicago and wanting him to move back home, i felt i could really associate with it because my best friend came with me to see you and he had moved to chicago and moved back, and i just laughed because what you sang about was sooo true! Cant wait to see you soon at the wyndotte street fair ha
Hey there Charlie! Glad to see you are on tour. Hope to see you in Michigan soon. I still got the lyrics to LASERBEAMS in my head since I saw you in Ypsi. If possible come down and see 3 films on Portmans Birthday ok?
Sweet! Keep in touch. Let me know asap what date works best so I can hold the space. We think with our college fanbase back in town at an all ages venue we're gonna net you so many new fans.
Is there any time for you to make another Pittsburgh stop during your next tour? We found a new venue that's all ages + drinking for 21+ so I think I might have the perfect show if you can just give me a date to get it set up for you. We've all been bumping your jams since last time.
