My dear friend Mark sent me the above quote, and jokingly claimed it was his motto in life, especially after he bought his beloved "Dreamcatcher" Harley. Since Mark loved quotes as much as I do, he also sent me this next one to inspire me to regain my cheerful perspective and mend my broken heart during a particularly challenging point of my life: "The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen." He and I were best buds for many years, and brought out the best in each other as we maneuvered our way through the mine field of being single again. Both of our long term marriages ended up leaving us with more questions than answers about what constitutes a "healthy" relationship. We helped each other become whole again as individuals by

Now the Indians. I call them “Indians” because that's what they are.
They're Indians. There's nothing wrong with the word Indian.
First of all, it's important to know that the word Indian does not derive from Columbus mistakenly believing he had reached “India.” India was not even called by that name in 1492 - it was known as Hindustan.
The word Indian comes from Columbus' description of the people he found here. He was an Italian, and did not speak or write very good Spanish, so in his written accounts he called the Indians, “Una gente in Dios.” “A people in God.” In God. In Dios. Indians. It's a perfectly noble and respectable word.
As far as calling them “Americans” is concerned, do I even have to point out what an insult this is? We occupy their hemisphere, kill sixty to a hundred million or so of them, destroy five hundred separate cultures, herd the survivors onto the worst land we can find - and now we want to name them after ourselves?
It's appalling. Haven't we done enough damage? Do we have to further degrade them by tagging them with the repulsive name of their conquerors? But are they really “conquered?!” What about the ones still here – are they chopped liver!?
You know, you'd think it would be a fairly simple thing to come over to this continent, commit genocide, eliminate the forests, dam up the rivers, build our malls and massage parlors, sell our blenders and whoopee cushions, poison ourselves with chemicals, and let it go at that. But no. We have to compound the insult!
I'm glad the Indians have gambling casinos now. It makes me happy that dimwitted white people are losing their rent money to the Indians. Maybe the Indians will get lucky and win their country back. Probably wouldn't want it. Look at what we did to it.

One of my favorite quotes is from Michael Strassfeld:

I'm grateful for all the blessings (and obstacles I've overcome) so far, and I'm quite convinced the best in life is yet to come for me. My oldest son still calls me the "Hug Machine" because I intuitively reach out to others, offering them a "down home friendly" helping hand, a soft shoulder to lean on, or a heartfelt bear hug to help brighten up their smile. I also love to belly laugh, especially at my own foibles, for my guiding principle in life is the axiom, "Your thoughts create your reality." As Einstein noted, "Your imagination is your preview to life’s coming attractions."
I'm adamant about listening with an open mind and heart to other voices, other perceptions, and other cultures. Coloring outside the lines, talking to animals or plants, standing up for what’s right, and dancing to music while I'm cleaning helps me to remain young at heart. Speaking of music, I can't imagine life without it! I'm blessed with a wide circle of diverse friends of all ages; quiet angels who also lift me to my feet when my own wings have trouble remembering how to fly. Because I feel such a deep connection with the weather, plants, and animals, I tend to prefer sunshine to thunder or snow, the warmth of summer to autumn's chill, and quiet forests to suburban backyards. As a spiritual being experiencing a human existence, I've noticed that kindness and humility are the hallmarks of compassionate souls who seek to serve the highest good. Those same attributes are what has impressed me the most about Native American spirituality, especially since the key factors are to respect, honor, and care for everything on this planet. As Dr. Wayne Dyer claims, "One individual who lives and vibrates to the energy of pure love and reverence for all of life will counterbalance the negativity of 750,000 individuals who calibrate at the lower weakening levels.”
Regarding my Native American ethnicity, I'm one of the many "lost birds" of the Cherokees who eventually found my way back to my ancestral roots. My paternal grandfather was "adopted" in the deep south when it was common practice to "remove" Indian children from their families and "assimilate" them into becoming productive
"citizens" in the white man's world. I'm also part white, though I can't "prove" that side of my heritage either. ;) One of my anthropology professors put history into a much better perspective by explaining, "Native Americans are Americans in a way that no others can be. Even if we suppose that their ancestors arrived 'only' 15,000 years ago, they've been here thirty times longer than anyone else. If we call that time a month, Columbus came yesterday ..."
Who I'd like to meet:
Aside from enjoying all the great music, I'll be content to meet up with some old friends, make new ones, and connect with like minded individuals around the planet. The way I see it, two people may be far apart in distance, but they can remain connected through their hearts and minds, transcending distance, space and time. However, I'm also open to meeting and maybe even dating a local man, especially if he relates to this type of lifestyle:
