Bio
…is a singer/songwriter whose eclectic expression is inspired by her Mohawk ancestry and nomadic upbringing across Canada. Her musical style, a fusion of genres, including handrum, roots, rock, jazz and blues is predominated by her passionate and powerful voice, best described as soulful, haunting and evocative. Following the release of her first album, Closer to Home, a reflection that threads stories about identity, pride, Aboriginal issues, love and the human spirit, Cheri was nominated for Best New Artist & Best Songwriter for the Aboriginal People's Choice Music Awards 2007, Best Female Artist for the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards 2007, and for Best Alternative Rock & Best Pop Categories for the Indian Summer Music Awards 2008. Cheri has performed all across Turtle Island and in Europe at festivals, concerts, local venues, including live televised performances at The Aboriginal People's Choice Music Awards 2007, and Rez Tunez 2008 for APTN. Most recently Cheri was a featured artist on Arbour Live, APTN, showcasing her new material, and was a featured artist in the documentary Determination Songs, by Multi Monde Productions, Montreal. She was also invited to perform at the Aboriginal pavilion at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, B.C. Currently Cheri is recording a five song LP of original music entitled If I Am Water. Indulging her passion for jazz, Cheri regularly performs jazz and recently recorded a five song jazz demo. Cheri's enigmatic style impresses critics and audiences alike, and she continues to build a solid fan base. -

Are you going to preform at this year's Take Back The Night? I hope so. Not sure when the TBTN Toronto is, but I do know of one in Malton, September 16 - 17?
I'm sure the Metis elder from PAN will be there.

Dear Friends,
After years of working on the East-West thing, I am really happy to announce the release of my new CD recording project, Silk Road Blues, on a great label, Flowfish Records. This music explores the possibilities of Afghan rebab with piano and jazz. Three pieces are up on my profile right now. I'd be grateful to hear some feedback from you.
Best wishes,
Larry
