   About The Devil Bat
The Devil Bat delivers the rock and roll. Achingly beautiful vocals blend with psychedelic guitars while the rythm section testifies to excite and soothe the jaded music fan. The Sound: an original blend of 13th Floor Elevators, Patti Smith, Ennio Morricone and P.J. Harvey. The Devil Bat features five long-time members of the Austin rock underground: Laura Creedle (Power Snatch,) David Escamilla (Dogshit Rangers,) Virginia Meza (Jackie Ono,) Lisa Cameron (ST 37,) and LA Cameron (Sky City.) Lingers Like a Ghost is The Devil Bat's 5-song CD on Sister Skull Records. Produced by Gretchen Phillips and engineered by Brian Nelson, the shimmering sound of this recording highlights the passionate song-writing and solid performances of the band. No FCC violations. Contact Information: LA Cameron (512) 299-6382 devilbatsdaughter@hotmail.com www.thedevilbat.com__________________________ Texas Top 10s (Austin Chronicle, January 2, 2009) GREG BEETS 10) The Devil Bat, Lingers Like a Ghost (Sister Skull) ________________________________________________________________ THE AUSTIN CHRONICLE AUGUST 8, 2008: MUSIC Texas Platters BY GREG BEETS The Devil Bat Lingers Like a Ghost (Sister Skull) Unassuming yet surprisingly potent, the Devil Bat hits like a well-crafted beer buzz at a run-down rent-house garden party. Led by guitarist/vocalist L.A. Cameron, the Austin quintet's homespun sound contrasts elements of coffeehouse folk with triangulated psychedelic guitar, connecting the local legacy dots forward from Powell St. John and Roky Erickson on through to Girls in the Nose. Appropriately, Nose vet Gretchen Phillips is on hand to produce and provide harmony vocals on this promising five-song debut. Ghost begins with "The Corner Store," a plaintive mash note to a frozen-hearted, tortured artist type that climbs from lilting to loud and back down again. "Appalachia" explores appropriately gothic themes of retribution and redemption against a rambling rhythmic backdrop, while "Standing at the Edge of Daybreak" self-immolates in the frazzled 4am weirdness of a flagging noncommercial radio signal. Welcome back to 1965, by way of 1985.

Friends:

We live in a nation of laws, and George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney must observe those laws like everyone else. But consider a few of the things done by their administration:

  • They twisted and cherry-picked intelligence to support going to war (illegally) in Iraq, and deliberately distorted the truth to build their case.

  • They outed a CIA employee, Valerie Plame Wilson, in retaliation against her husband, who published information that discredited their positions.

  • They violated the Geneva conventions by approving of torture and "renditions" (see the case of Maher Arar), thus severely damaging the position of the US on human rights issues; and allowed the atrocities at Abu Ghraib to happen. The Geneva conventions have effectively been killed by the Bush administration, and American soldiers will now be more likely to face torture than before.

  • They allowed our soldiers in Iraq to use white phosphorus (an incendiary chemical that causes severe burns and napalm against insurgents.

  • They broke the FISA law by conducting secret, domestic wiretaps without court authority.

  • They demonstrated contempt for the legislative branch by writing numerous "signing statements" that attempt to rewrite the law.

I have called on my representatives in the US Congress to hold the administration accountable for these wrongs, but so far there hasn't been much action. There doesn't seem to be enough political will for impeachment. But nothing else would be enough to demonstrate to the world that we are a nation that abides by the rule of law, that values justice. Our Constitutional system of checks and balances requires that Congress act without further delay. We need more clamor at the grass-roots level to convince our politicians to do what needs to be done. If we miss this chance to hold our leaders accountable, future leaders will figure they can commit similar crimes and get away with it. Can we afford NOT to impeach Bush and Cheney?

I've decided it's time to do more than cross my fingers and hope. We've got to DEMAND justice, now!

So call or write to your representatives in the House or Senate. And spread the word! There has never been a worse time for apathy. Please repost this freely. And let me know if you have any other ideas.
