CHIRAW, fusion of the words: chi and raw.
Chi or Qi in its Chinese origin stand for: vital energy
and raw just states the pure form of this energy thats
filling the air when CHIRAW takes the stage.
Formed and based in Overijssel, the Netherlands since January
2006, CHIRAW tries to let their music be heard in every
way possible. Setting in with their combination of heavy,
energized, brutal riffs, industrial atmospheric samples,
crystal clean melodies, killer shouts and ground pounding
beats to energize the scene.
From the beginning CHIRAW immediately started writing and when 5 songs were done, they recorded their first EP: Resurrection! With this 5 track EP, Chiraw did as many shows as possible in every pit, bar, club, festival etc.
While playing shows everywhere, CHIRAW always kept writing new material.
All the live effort paid of when entering the Aardschok/Jägermeister
Metal Bash competition in 2006. Chiraw won! The jury was unanimous and
the modern metal quintet won, thanks to their fresh approach on metal, combined with their crushing live performance.
No time to sit back and relax!! CHIRAW kept writing and they were ready to hit the studio again in 2007,
but this time to record their first full-length album.
‘DARK FREQUENCIES’ is a monstrous metal assault stuffed with groove,
melody and aggression. Recorded by Gerwin Bruins and Mixed by Jochem Jacobs (TEXTURES)
the disc sounds as brutal as it gets!
In the summer of 2008 CHIRAW signed a recorddeal with Rusty Cage Records
and the album was officially released on 15okt. 2008.
The release of the album ‘Dark Frequencies’ was followed by a great number of shows small and big like Waldrock, de Zwarte Cross, Elsrock, Bevrijdingsfestival Zwolle etc. CHIRAW also did a bunch of supports such as Textures, Hatesphere, Volbeat, Madina Lake, Dry Kill Logic etc.
And again CHIRAW did not only play a lot of shows and have lots of fun, but they managed to stay focused, practice a lot to become better musicians and songwriters and write new material.
As a result in the summer of 2009 CHIRAW got ready to record their second full-length album and the band kicked of this process Sept. 2009 at Split Second Sound-Studio in Amsterdam with Jochem Jacobs (Textures). The album is scheduled for spring 2010!!
2009 was also the year that CHIRAW had it’s first and only line-up change. Gijs Grootelaar (keys) decided it was time for him to quit the band due to personal reasons. CHIRAW thanks Gijs for the friendship and all the good times we had and still have together!
In May 2009 CHIRAW finally found his guy. One practice together and both sides knew this was going to be very good. From this moment on Peter Schmitz brought a whole new vibe to the sound of CHIRAW with his synths & freaky sounds. This will of course also be a part of CHIRAW’s upcoming album!!
With all these good progressions, CHIRAW also hooked up with a new management called King Play Music, run by Roelie van Lingen.
The outfit is ready to hit the road and crush the stages!! Holland’s rising metalforce and favourite sons in law: CHIRAW
