Hakkımda: Santiago & Bushido Releases on [Beatport]
2008 proved to be a breakout year for Chris Santiago, who, in teaming with production partner Tim Bushido on Chicago’s Potty Mouth Music label, released the tech-funk burner “Headtrick.” The track remained the No. 1 downloaded track on beatport.com for three consecutive weeks, garnering instant praise from critics and clubheads alike.
Santiago’s production successes both as a solo artist and with Bushido were years in the making, culminating with his lasted coup—an exclusive residency at Smart Bar beginning in September 2008. Taking influence from eclectic tech-house artists including Switch and Crookers, Santiago brings a forward thinking sound to SmartBar’s monthly cast of EDM standouts, blending big basslines and vocals with a hodge podge of techno, fidget and hip hop sampling. Guests can now catch Santiago’s latest take on tech house during alternating months of 2008-2009 at SmartBar. He joins the resident ranks of Kaskade, Colette, DJ Heather Miles Maeda and Justin Long.
As a producer, Santiago’s catalogue encompasses influences as far reaching as rock and experimental EDM. In 2000, he began working his way up through the channels of Chicago’s nightlife. Within one year of playing gigs, he proved himself a natural and secured a Friday night residency for House Arrest Events, one of Chicago’s premier house nights. His 2007 debut on the emerging Potty Mouth Music label set the tone for a breakout year that would see tech-tinged house dominate the underground dance music scene.
Whether he is performing solo on the decks or producing in the studio with Bushido, Santiago puts a brash, ballsy spin on a sound he continues to redefine. The production duo set the tone in early 2008, where they topped Beatport.com’s list of “Most Downloaded Artists” for the month of January. The duo’s “For What EP” on Potty Mouth Music was released to critical praise and garnered support from DJs across the globe including Armin Van Burin, Tiesto, Jesse Rose, and Johnny Fiasco.
2008 also welcomed the releases of Kaskade’s “Move For Me” Remix on Ultra Records and “Cops and Robbers EP” (as Cops and Robbers) on Potty Mouth Music. The latest Santiago & Bushido EP, Santiago & Bushido vs. DJ Fame “For The People,” was released on Potty Mouth this fall. In addition to his tracks on Potty Mouth Music, Santiago has several forthcoming releases, including work with Larry Tee (Louie Vuitton S&B Rmx), Colette (Runnin Around S&B Rmx) and The Prairie Cartel (Long Nights, Impossible Odds).
When defining his sound, Santiago strays from confined labels. While his production work draws influences from genre innovators such as Switch, he refuses to box his brand.
“Honestly, I hate the word fidget,” he said during a 2008 interview with URB magazine. “I think that it’s become the hot sound and you’ve got a lot of new producers out right now that are still following the formula switch laid out years ago . . . I think (Bushido and I) have definitely been inspired by the fidget sound, but we really like to take fidget elements and add our own twist to it.”

Thanks to all that showed up to our event last week, Deep with Greg K, Ori Kawa, and Frank Solano. And for our friends that were unable to make it, we took some pictures and recorded the tunes. Please let us know what you think at LaManza Blog. Adios Amigos,
We present these next 2 releases on Dimpleman Records:
1: Martijn Kuilema - Indian Territory (1st video in player)
"A pumping underground track with deep percussion, swinging guitars and an Indians cry. This track is really meant for the dance floor to let yourself go. "
2: Kuilema vs. RosyRoze - Time To Go (2nd video in player)
"The track is full of emotion and has a fresh mix of Electro, Trance and Progressive. The stirring beats in combination with a beautiful vocal break gives Time To Go a timeless character. "
Thank you to all that came out to the South of Roosevelt Record Release Party last Wednesday. You can check out pictures at SoRo Record Release Pics. This Wednesday, April 15th Frank Solano and Ori Kawa with Greg K will be DJing and Sandra P will be the nite's host.
