Hey....I can't help myself, I want to stay positive. We have a new young African American president and it feels like the old Dinosaurs who have been dirtying up our air, water, international reputation, and attitude towards each other in the name of "Democracy" might really be pushed into the shadows where they belong. The current state of the economy is a sure sign that capitolism has played itself out. We have hit the wall. resources are tapped and the generally accepted ethic is poisoned with greed and speculation. Did you know Americans work 9 weeks out of the year more than any other country? Yet the lifestyle is not better than most places in Europe. As someone who has been lucky enough to travel to many parts of the world I have seen the difference. 9 weeks-that's an entire summer!! And for what? A Mcmansion and a side of fries and you're too tired and scared of losing it to actually appreciate it. Yes , the poor musician is ranting again. I meet and talk to lots of people who tell me how they wake up in the morning rush off to work, stop along the way to get a cupp of crappy coffee and awful form of carbohydrate , spend the day under flourescent lights in fromt of a computer screen come home unable to function until a beer is in hand in front of the T.V set. What better way for a fascist/capitolist supremecy to control and enslave it's masses? But I believe there is a slow process of waking from this bad dream for many. So stay happy in the face of diversity and gain strength from this moment.
Much Love,
CHRIS
MY QUESTIONS TO YOU AS OF 1/5/09-
DOES ANYBODY KNOW A TRULY GIFTED GREAT ARCHTOP GUITAR REPAIR PERSON WHO REALLY UNDERSTANDS THAT AN ARCHTOP GUITAR IS NOT SET UP LIKE A STRAT?? PLEASE TELL ME IF YOU DO !
HAS ANYBODY HERE EVER PLACED A SONG THROUGH TAXI? PLEASE TELL ME IF YOU KNOW WHETHER OR NOT TAXI IS A CLIQUISH SCAM!
MY IDEA OF THE NEXT BIG MOVING INSPIRATION FOR HUMANS REGARDING MUSIC IS GOING TO BE MULTI DIMENSIONAL AND MULTI MEDIA. NOT JUST MUSIC AND DEFFINITELY NOT JUST A CD OR A PAGE ON THE INTERNET. WE ALL NEED SOMETHING TO GET UP IN OUR OWN SPACE PUT US INSIDE AND MAKE US PART OF THE EXPERIENCE TO BREAK US ALL OUT OF THE JADEDNESS AND CONSTANT "REGULARNESS" OF MUSIC AND VISUAL ENTERTAINMENT WHICH IS NOW PRETTY MUCH JUST A FORM OF ADVERTISING.
PLEASE POST YOUR IDEA OF WHAT IT COULD/SHOULD BE. CAUSE II'LL FIGHT'YA FOR THE ANSWER. !
EXCERPTS FROM THE MUSIC BIZ BIO. HENCE, THE THIRD PERSON JARGON.-
Chris McDermott has released five studio CD's in the past. He has toured as a sideman to some of the best blues artists in the world (Carrie Bell, Eddie kirkland,Nappy Brown,Zorah Young,Hubert Sumlin, and more). He has been touring and promoting his own music throughout much of the USA and Europe for 18 years. He performed at Woodstock 99 with his band, The Chris McDermott Love Perimeter. Besides producing all his own recordings he has also produced several records for other artists including Eddie Kirkland's most recent release "Booty Blues." Chris also teaches guitar part time at Berklee College of Music in Boston Massachusetts.
The past two years have been a place of less traveling, more writing planning and teaching. but that is about to change with the upcoming release of a new CD featuring 13 original songs in a newly inspired bent toward original old school soul combined with some very aggressive, funky archtop acoustic guitar and the ultra human funk grooves of Clyde Stubblefield on the drums.
It was the Friday before Memorial day - you played a Marriott? near Saddle River NJ - I was visiting friends who were more interested in the disco inside that the Combo on the Patio - I must have played the cd I purchased that day to at least 100 people by now and still listen to it regularly
Now that I see where to find you playing, I just need to get my truck to Boston
Really enjoyed the music you have up and will be getting the cds I don't have soon - glad to see you still making good music =^. .^=
