On Tuesday, January 20th 2009, Chris Pureka will release her 2nd EP (her 4th album) Chimera. The project will be supported by a 2 week band tour in the Northeast and Midwest followed by West Coast and Mid Atlantic dates in the spring. It includes live tracks from the last few years of Pureka's busy tour schedule and features guest appearances by Peter Mulvey, Girlyman and various side players that often accompany Pureka on stage.
The record also contains 2 previously unreleased studio tracks and a new version of a song that appeared on Pureka's debut Self Titled EP (2001) and a studio cover of the popular Old Crow Medicine Show song, “Wagon Wheel”. Recent accolades from BILLBOARD MAGAZINE and The New York Times and consistent touring have kept Pureka in the public eye while she works on her 5th record, a full length due out at summer's end.
Recent touring highlights include a well received support tour for Jay Brannan and a sold out summer show at Joe’s Pub in New York City. About Pureka's Official CMJ Showcase (NYC OCTOBER 2008) The New York Times said, “An interviewer asked Chris Pureka to sum up her music as a haiku. I will: Folky sorrowful songs of loneliness and hurt, longing to reunite. Her tunes have the grave Appalachian flavor of Neil Young and Gillian Welch; her guitar playing is subdued but quietly virtuosic. And her voice can be a desolate whisper or a bitter accusation. There’s no comfort, for her, in the clarity of her observations.” (Jon Parales)
In Chris' words:
“This record is much looser, and at times, more playful that the other records I have made. It is also a sort of reflection of the last few years – a bit retrospective – and meant for the fans that have been with me through it. It is a collection of songs that span a wide period of time and come from many different experiences: disparate pieces that are now united into a single work. In short, this record is something of a chimera."

Just wanted to say congrats for opening for Ani. that would really be awsome to see, but since i'm stuck here on the wrong side of the ocean that won't happen... And thanks for all your music, it's wonderfull!
I mean it's a quite insignificant place to most, but if you're looking for more than just a bunch of screaming fans, it's the best place to visit. Couldn't say enough great things.
You're the cat's pajamas! ...I was reading the jacket of CHIMERA and I have to say that I completely agree with your notes about California. The verse you added really completes the song. To be blunt, you nailed it. I can't stop listening to it!
Chris! your music is so amazing its life changeing! I tryed to katch you at pride this weekend but the days were switched so i misses it :( come to washingtion again soon!
love the dulcit and soothing tones of your voice. I was wondering, what brought about the mythological naming of your album? I've always been facinated with mythological beasts/entities, but was curious about the story behind it... anyways, take care.
It has been a while since I added and I might as well cut to the chase. I started listening to your music on my IPOD and I got to say that I enjoy your music. I hope you get a chance to come to Cleveland in the future!
you need to come toIL or IA around the Quad Cities area. I've been a fan for years and i think you've been around here before but i never get the chance to go see you. (pouts) haha
