C.C.B will be back in its full glory for the Summer of 2009/2010
Another season has drawn to a close and although rumours of a break away winter hit-out keep emerging at an as yet undisclosed location, it remains to be seen if contracts and image rights can be worked through by rebel agents and promoters.
But the big news is that the CCB awards night were held recently at the Clarendon Hotel and were a roariing success. Sam Franzway was named the player of the season and the winner of the 3rd annual S.M.Klauber medal. Shane Harris stormed into an early lead with the counting which at one point seemed unbeatable only to be overtaken by Tim Saul once the counting for the second test was complete. But Franzway bided his time nicely and ended up winning the medal by two votes with the very last voting slip of the night. A thrilling finish. The Wives And Girlfriends lit up the evening with attire fit for the chavest of occassions. See pictures. Well done organisers. A great night.
The awards for batting, bowling, fielding and keeping were be handed out as well on the night)with Keith Gray, Ben Palk, Gene Lashchuk and Grant Mollison getting amongst the bling.
The three test dates next year will be announced as soon as the board can be arsed organising them, although of course, the Melbourne test is set in stone as usual (or black concrete if you like):
TEST 1:TBA (BRISBANE)
TEST 2:Saturday Dec 26th 2009 1.30pm (MELBOURNE)
TEST 3:TBA (SYDNEY)
Be there. Or be shaped like a triangle with a dual personality minus two sides.
That's right! A square.
Come to whatever games in the future you can or like. If ya can't come for the whole day, that's alright, the captains (Steedy & Gene and/or Stef) will accomodate this.
All new blokes welcome, if you have some tough talking rookie you wanna bring along, who's possibly been shooting his mouth off all winter, that's fine. But like all rookies and Stef, he will be treated with disdain ... (until he smashes someone over the fence or brissles someone's goatie with some steep chin music).
Thanks to the new lads who came out last summer and to the old school fellas who have been there time and time again.
Order your hats!
See pictures!
Thanks to Palk, Franzway and Goose for stepping up to organise the awards night for this year. Hats off to ya lads. CCB Hats.
HISTORY OF THE GAME IN LESS THAN 500 WORDS
Well, CCB. Looking back on the history briefly, you could say the game in its current format dates back to the early 80s, when CCB 1-5 used to slug it out and try with all their might to reach the boundary with what muscles they had. Years later, they are still trying, with the few muscles they have, and yet it wasn't until the early 1990s that with the introdution of the beautiful game to the CCB members 6 onwards that the game really took off.
Gone was the need for auto wickey and in came the pints of ale after an over. All changes for the better.
From then on, it has been upwards and onwards. New men, now legends of the game like Palky have stepped up to the plate to be captain, new men like Rammo have come in and rolled heads and old friends like Jobey roll up with a hangover and perform miracles if not let slip the odd dropped catch.
The new men have added new spice, and what has always stemmed from a "Boxing Day plus two other games annual tradition" has blossomed into more and more games. 6 games last year, setting a new standard. It is possible I am going to write the word "new" just once more for no other reason than to set another standard.
Bring on the next game. The interstaters are already booking their tickets.
Fair dues to them.
In other news, ignoring the emergence of this site for a second, videos are starting to rear their ugly head
And what more appropriate way could you start watching some of the videos of CCB, than with some trash talking. How could a Lillee Medallist be teased about an ice-cream van? Did it happen, well look for yourselves....
