Clare Muireann Murphy is one of the emerging voices in Irish Storytelling. Clare has performed at the Globe Theatre London, The Barbican Pit Theatre, London, Vienna LIt Festival, Kilkenny Arts Festival, Cape Clear International Storytelling Festival and many many more.

Clare's repertoire encompasses Irish mythology, legends and folktales as well as a plethora of world folktales, fables, legends, participation stories and anecdotes.

Clare has told stories for people of all ages and backgrounds. She gives workshops in storytelling and has has worked with a wide range of participants including travellers, refugees, youth at risk, elderly groups, Montessori groups, teachers, actors, community workers, university students and after school groups.

She has toured the UK and the USA several times in the last few years. Clare toured the UK twice in 2008 with Traditional Arts Team's highly successful Storytelling Cafe tour.Trad Arts Team homepage

AWARDS AND ACCOLADES

Nominee for the Arts Foundation Fellowship Storytelling Award in 2008.

Social Entrepreneur Award Winner Level 1 2007

Clare took first place 2008/2009 at the Listowel Writers Week Storytelling Competition.

Winner of Muscailt Short Story Competition 2004 and 2005.

She is also a member of Storytellers of Ireland, and Poetry Ireland's Writers in Schools Scheme.

In August 2009 Clare became a proud member of FEST, Federation of European Storytelling.

She is the Director of the Community Storytelling Initiative, Galway.

The Community Storytelling Initiative was founded in 2006; its aim is to work with communities (main and marginalised) through storytelling. This initiative has spawned many projects including:

STORY NIGHT (2006); a monthly storytelling evening open to all. Listeners and tellers are welcome. ..STORY NIGHT is on the first Tuesday of every month at the Spirit Centre, Nun's Island at 9pm... Everyone is welcome, a donation of €3 is asked to cover rent and tea supplies...

THE INTERNATIONAL NIGHT OF TALES. An intercultural project that worked with members of the international community over six weeks culminating in a sold out performance on March 11th, 2009. Ten tellers and the Big Sing Multicultural Choir performed at this dynamic and successful two hour show. Watch this space for future performances and information on emerging International Tellers.

Clare is a member of the internationally renowned Crick Crack Club's list of recommended tellers Crick Crack Club's Recommended European Tellers The Crick Crack Club presented Clare at the Globe Theatre, Nov 2008 and at the Barbican Theatre, Oct 2009. They are dedicated to the training, directing and promoting of performance storytellers as well as producing and presenting high quality performance storytelling in theatres, museums and other venues.

Clare also works in collaboration with YOUR MAN'S PUPPETS. Their latest work together TALES FROM THE WORKSHOP has toured Ireland including Kilkenny Arts Festival 2009 and Baboró International Children's Festival 2009. It also went to Singapore in June 2008 for the OUt of the Box puppet Festival. This show is currently available for booking (2009) for festivals and events around Ireland and the World. TALES FROM THE WORKSHOP A show of storytelling and puppetry from Your Mans Puppets. Suitable for children of all ages, Tales from the Workshop is a show about what happens when the storyteller has to entertain the puppets just to get a little work done!
