   Janet A McLeod's Comedian Bio
BioJanet inhabits a small corner of space in Melbourne, Australia which she has stuffed with an assortment of novelty lighting, fake flowers and kitsch memorabilia. Janet runs a comedy night called Local Laughs which everybody loves and she also hosts a pile of trivia nights. It has been widely noted that Janet is rather good at these things so she has decided to accept this as a truth and will no longer bend to false modesty. Janet appears once a fortnight on ABC Local Radio's Overnights on the Trevor Chappell show. She rather enjoys this. She also rather enjoys writing in the third person. Indeed she do.

InfluencesThe first op shop I ever visited, Bert Fegg's Nasty Book For Boys and Girls, The Goodies, my Grandmother's china cabinet, Mt Clear Tech High School Year 7 English teacher Ms Crace.
TV ShowsSomething Hot Before Bed (ABC TV), Standing Up (ABC TV), 2006 Antennae Awards (Ch 31), The Club (Ch 7), Rove Live - Roving with Rove (Ch 10), ah, that'll do.
FilmsAFI Award winning film "Father". Played the part of a dead body. It was a FEATURED dead body, you know. If I hadn't have been there the little girl would never have had a dead hand to push past when she climbed out of the burial pit.
Albums1982 Out Of The Blue

    Janet A McLeod's Interests
GeneralGenerals. And shiny things. Shiny generals in particular.
MusicMy favourite CD of the moment is "Panpipes play Boyzone". This is the worst idea for a recording I've come across in recent memory. It is definitely number 1 with a bullet on my Top 40 (S)Hits list. WORTHY OF NOTE: I own six copies of The Alan Gardiner Accordian Band's "Play It Again" album. The artwork is exceptional. I'm currently listening to an album of unlikely cover versions. Nick Cave's version of Pulp's Disco 2000 is of note.
MoviesThere's that one by that director...you know the one....it has whatsisface in it? And the one where they are in that place....you know...with the house?
TelevisionI've developed an obsession with the news. SBS has several foreign language services which I'll end up watching when there is no other news. I don't speak any languages apart from English but for me it doesn't seem to matter - you can generally get the gist of what is going on. Besides - the news sounds sexier in French. RRRROWR.
BooksCurrently beside my bed: Confederacy of Dunces, two volume World Book Dictionary, Girl's Own Annual, Flushed With Pride - the Story of Thomas Crapper, Gerald Durrell - various animal-related hijinks books, Bill Bryson's Mother Tongue and A Short History of Nearly Everything. I really need to learn to only read one book at a time.
HeroesPuss in Boots. He doesn't let little things such as not physically having the capacity for human speech or the correct muscle/bone structure for upright mobility get in the way of doing such things. He helped his owner get the gold, get the girl and to become the Lord Mayor of London, all while attending to his own personal boot fetish.

About me:
I enjoy maintaining a regular core temperature of between 36.1 - 37.8 °C.
Who I'd like to meet:
That cat from down the road who always sits in the window. So pretty. So flirtatious. So unattainable. Mind you, I AM allergic to cats so why I want to meet it so badly seems to indicate an underlying self-punishement issue. No wonder I stay single.

Hey Janet - surely you like hippos, no?
It's been awhile - sorry there hasn't been in any Australian shows for many months but we've been busy in Europe with a bunch of touring and we're now recording our new album in Berlin (scheduled for release in March). But to make up for it, here's a big (and silly) Merry Christmas from us (and from some hippos too) :

Some bold new artistic direction? Nah, Just us being silly!!! We did this track for our label's "Black Snow - the completely different Xmas compilation". (and of course, visit our youtube channel for a high quality version)

Wishing you a very silly Silly Season and we'll see you back in Australia sometime in 2010!

Does that mean I can get a spot - on condition I actually rock up and check out the show and pay my dollars to support it - that would be the first time I would have done fuck all to support the arts - ha ha.

I have always considered myself a bit of a comedy expert actually. I might write a review of the night and put it on my page.

Here's a cracker of a joke I wrote last week - What do tolerance and Australian values have in common? Fuck All! (it's funny cos it's true - like when Seinfeld does jokes about disabled parking spaces)

See you soon. I will probably wear a disguise so no one will recognise me if that is alright with you!

Sorry to hear Local Laughs is winding up. I was gonna ask for a spot cos I got some great material on African refugees and kids who got left behind at train stations - Do you know anyone who runs a comedy night in Noble Park?

Don't listen to Shappi: it's the cravings. Listen to me:

Come to Edinburgh! Come to London, for that matter! It's a very pretty train ride down the coast, though I'm sure you already know this.

I want to book you for Storytellers' in Edinburgh, and early in September, there's a little indie-folk, clever-people's music festival we need you for too! Jeffery Lewis is playing... and more!

Well, I really hope you're well. I know I need to get writing a reply to your ACE email. Thank you so much for that. You're brill. And by the way: I love M(Y)M. It's so, so good and I wish there was a teleporty way I could help in some small capacity. I would love to make a primative animation for it! My childlike scrawlings are genius*!

Come to Edinburgh?
