Sounds Like
With drums, Cliff Art sounds a lot like King Crimson, Brian Eno, and ELP, among others.
Stuart and Cliff came together in 1994 to form their unusual duo. The name comes from a combination of the "cliff" part of Clifford and the "art" part of Stuart. Their first album, Elephants of the Monsoon Tomorrow, debuted in 1997. A few years after their first album, Cliff Art began thinking about new sounds and contacted an old friend, Dave Bloodgood, who added drums and percussion to about two-thirds of the second album, The Master Dishwasher, which was released in 2003. Cliff Art continues to perform and write as a duo, but gets a great deal of pleasure from the addition of Dave to regular gigs as a trio. Fans of their unique instrumental music describe their sound as Modern Chamber Folk, Martian Bluegrass, and Extra-terrestrial Japanese Fusion Jazz.
