Dysfunctional bombast to the one, inspiring energy to the other. Mocked as self-indulgent spaced out jams, equally praised as an exciting stroll down Peccary Lane.
The music of Codasync is a spontaneous amalgation of four completely different, sometimes even creatively contrasting artistic perspectives. It projects a place where funky grooverock 'n' roll isn't afraid to collide with modern prog - interspersed with acoustically performed drum 'n' bass passages, lightning fast extreme metal breaks, or soothingly atmospheric, soundtracklike instrumezzo's.
Born in early 2007 after years of musical explorations and coming to a first recorded fruition in late 2008, Codasync's sound represents an harmonic mixture of Bram Van Houtte's extravagant, odd-metered melodies with Jokke Meersmans' organic, often dissonant blueswail - underlaid by Matthias Meersmans' polyrhythmically swinging dynamics and Bruno Morez' hip hop-influenced in-the-pocket playing.
'Mows Arred' was their first collection of songs - written, produced and recorded by the Antwerpian band itself. From the expressive in-your-face eclecticism of album opener 'Maria Puppins', over twin guitar-dominated tunes like 'Moe's Art' and 'Count Spiro Returns', to constantly shifting band counterpoints such as 'Aka Joe Houttequiet' or 'Rostislav Grovgast' and the compositional subtlety of closing track 'Harold Greets Arnold', Codasync repeatedly showed it has a voice all of its own.
Now, Codasync’s second album ‘In Galoré’, which was self-recorded and -produced in Motormusic studios in 2009 (right after the release of 'Mows Arred') is set to take the band even further on their bombastic trip. With melodic and rhythmic themes subtly recurring throughout all of its six tracks, ‘In Galoré’ has a stronger production and even more eclectic yet balanced song material.
Electronica-influenced suites like ‘Centipede Jackomino’ and ‘Random Pomp Galöre’ fuse spaced-out funk with dub ’n bass and grinding metalcore, while furious blastbeats dance comfortably with catchy breakbeatgrooves in the guitar-driven album opener ‘Substituent Hump’. Light freejazz meets ambient in the completely improvised ‘Sideways Sunrays’, and the hardrock attack of ‘Lucdanun’ stands in sharp contrast to the fuzzed-out but gentle prog of ‘Wokkin’ with Dinah’s Sours’.
'In Galoré' will be released on December 11th at Scheld'apen in Antwerpen.
