Codeword Secret is a groundbreaking show that wraps comedy, action and drama into a single polished package. The story focuses on Johnny Newman, a larger-than-life “player” who gets drafted in to the CIA. There, he must face the challenge of a lifetime: confronting his own weaknesses, the mixed feelings of his cohorts, and ultimately a very dangerous figure from his past. But, of course, he doesn’t know that part yet.
Codeword Secret was created by the Washington, DC team of Barry Gribble & Kevin Good. Barry Gribble had previously created the web sitcom, Buddy Jackson, a pioneer short-form series. Barry has run his production company, Integral Arts, for 12 years and also serves as a creative consultant for Cloud Creek Institute for the Arts’ TVWriter.com. Kevin Good, long time DP and collaborator on Buddy Jackson, has also written and directed several shorts in addition to an improv short comedy series. Barry and Kevin both share the rare combination of a strong artistic vision and serious technical know how. They also share a passion for strong, compelling storytelling with a wry, dark sensibility and a distinctive visual style.
The cast of Codeword Secret includes some of the best actors in the DC area. Danny Gavigan, Regina Aquino, Ron Ward, Theodore Snead, Sonya Motlagh, and Ryan Mulkay are familiar to local audiences of both stage and film. Rounding out the cast is funnyman Danny Rouhier, a standup comic who has traveled extensively in the Mid-Atlantic region and recently toured Canada. Our guest cast includes DC theater institution, and director of Open Circle Theatre, Suzanne Richard.
Codeword Secret delivers on the promise of independent production, telling an edgy story that succeeds in being original but not alienating. It will bring viewers on a ride they won’t soon forget.
