The Cogs project was originally intended to be a one off album inspired by Luigi Russolo's futurist manifesto on music, 'The Art of Noises'. This resulted in Cogs debut 'Passings 1913-1915' ,an imagined representation of the first concert of futurist music. After the completion of that album it was decided that the project would continue and since then it has gone on to to explore a broad spectrum of conceptual ideas and musical styles over the course of ten albums of material and numerous other bits and pieces.
The name Cogs originally stood for 'Collapse of Geographical Significance' but has since come to represent the workman, machine like, factory rate at which material has appeared. The biggest flood of material came over a period of three years between 2000 and 2003. Highlights from that period were compiled on the album 'Laughter and Footsteps' which recieved rave reviews and extensive airplay on Irwin Chusids celebrated radio show.
Art Music Records CDR label was formed in order to release that disc and make previous albums more widely available. Cogs have played live sporadically since 2006. A new album is now available 'New Primitive' as limited eddition CDR and download, some previous albums will also be available for download. Art Music records currently exclusively release discs by Cogs, however it may release work by other artists in the future. 'New Primitive' is available via this page, Rough Trade, dobedo.co.uk, cdbaby and itunes as well as other major download sites.
"Raw, unpredictable, honest, uncompromising. Cogs is not a pop tart."

"A wild, and truly brilliant album. Cogs have more ideas in one song than most bands fit into a whole career"
