Cold Sun was originated in Austin Texas in 1969 and existed until the early 1970s.
Band leader Billy Miller began a collaboration with Roky Erickson in 1974 and reunited the members of Cold Sun to form BliebAlien, the initial band to launch the Roky solo career. This was the debut of the Roky which the world came to know before his past re-surfaced and before the Cold Sun past of BliebAlien likewise re-surfaced.
Miller and Erickson migrated to California in late 1975 to form THE ALIENS.
Cold Sun is admired by fans of Gothic Rock as well as Prog and Psychedelic rock. This band was among the very first tiny number of bands in the world to display the uncompromising attitude which later became known as punk.
This band was unlike other Texas bands. The music is known today as DARK, unlike The Elevators and other Texan bands of that era. The dark direction of the career of Roky often lumps his former psychedelic band into a general "dark" category, but this is mostly because of the association with his name.
The Cold Sun sound reveals itself to be on a musical path not unlike what Roky later took up, making his collaboration with Miller no surprise.
This band was too early to be a part of the punk movement and too late for the "psychedelic" movement, which initially had a tendendency to embrace anything musical that was considered "underground".
The album that was recorded in 1970 was finally released in 2008 on the World In Sound label in 12 inch LP format with a 10 inch bonus EP of live songs recorded in 1972, songs not on the original album. The album and bonus live tracks are also available as a CD format release. World In Sound utilized extensive re-mastering techniques that were not possible to this degree as recently as a year or two ago to present this album as it should have sounded originally. Critical reviews of the sound and packaging have been way over the top (positive).
The reputation of this album had grown steadily for the past two decades due to widely circulated underground copies.
The new release has firmly placed Cold Sun in the category of an era and genre staple which now takes its place in the music world as an enduring all time classic.
Billy Miller, now a long time California resident, did extensive recording with Roky Erickson And THE ALIENS and recently recorded and does shows and tours with Blood Drained Cows, the latest band and brain-child of Gregg Turner (of Angry Samoans fame).
Billy is currently involved in a new project, a reunion of THE ALIENS who now tour and record with Powell St. John, the original Elevators song writer and the man who STARTED IT ALL back in Texas when he formed The Conqueroo, the earliest Austin underground Rock And Roll band.
Powell St. John And THE ALIENS have a new album soon to be released.
Things have now come full circle with the release of the Cold Sun album and the new adventures of Powell St. John And The ALIENS.
The members of Cold Sun have worked together recently to help World In Sound to promote the album. The band has promised SUBSTANTIAL SURPRISES for those enquiring about possible reunion projects.
A World In Sound release of extensive high quality Cold Sun live recordings from 1972 is also underway.

SPECIAL THANKS TO THE MANY FANS AND MUSIC HISTORIANS WHO HAVE EXPRESSED SO MUCH SUPPORT AND INTEREST.
Oh, by the way - it is NOT a piano or keyboard but a souped up sawed off piano played like a bass and sax at once - an electric zyther.
The Flying Eyes are a heavy psych band hailing from Baltimore, Maryland. Since they formed in 2007, the group has played with many renowned bands such as The Raveonettes, The Black Angels, Witch and Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys (during SXSW 2009). The Flying Eyes have also created an annual, home-grown music festival, "Farm Fest", in Manchester, Maryland. This past year they headlined the event, drawing over 400 people to the Carney Family Farm. This fall, they will release a full length compilation of their two EPs ("Bad Blood" and "Winter") on Trip in Time.
