I have been asked why I don’t have any bluegrass tunes posted when I play bluegrass. It seemed to make more sense being an Irish dobro player to play some Irish stuff. There are much better players than I who play bluegrass so it’s best I leave it to them to post.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
’The Childrens Waltz’ is a tune I wrote fairly recently. I was going to name it Jennifers Waltz after my eldest daughter but then I thought the other three kids might not be happy. In the end the solution was to name it after all of them.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
’Archie Craigs Jig’ is a tune I wrote for an old friend of Janet’s family. Archie played the mandolin along with Janet’s Dad for many years. As he got older and more frail and stopped playing himself I would occasionally play the dobro for him and I thought he might like a tune named after him. This seemed the perfect tune for an Irish mandolin player. Sadly Archie and his wife Jean, both great and loyal people, are no longer with us. I hope they still enjoy the music. ’Danny Boy’ is for them too.-----------------------------------------------------------------------
’Wild Mountain Thyme’ may be a traditional tune or it may not. It is claimed by the famous McPeake family from Belfast and I go along with them. It is one of the world’s great melodies.--------------------------------------------------------------’Around the World’ is a traditional Irish reel. I am still working on this one to get it up to speed.
