To be honest, if you took down each individual member's musical influences, you'd probably have a big enough list to stock a record store... or at least one IPod.
Sounds Like
"...the quartet has a well-honed sense of pop songcraft."
- Eric Danton, Hartford Courant
"Columbia Fields has evolved into an indie-rock asskicking machine with a fine-tuned balance between eloquent songwriting and deep grooves."
- Hartford Advocate Grand Band Slam (Jul 19, 2007)
"This band is incredible! If you have never seen them perform, you don't know what your missing!"
Columbia Fields was formed in June of 2002 when Guitarist/Lead Vocalist Grayson Minney met up with Pianist/Keyboardist Eric Heath. The combination of acoustic folk guitar and classical/pop piano complimented each other perfectly and created a local buzz throughout their neighboring hometowns. Drummer Chris Bowes was added in September of 2005, and bassist Jon Coates joined in July 2006.
The music that evolved from this quartet was unique considering the diverse musical influences from each individual band member. The band released their first full-length album "When the Night Falls..." in June of 2007. In 2008 the band has also released a live DVD and EP of their September 2007 performance at the Capitol Theater in Willimantic, CT, and their second studio album was released in August 2009.
Columbia Fields has performed at some of the top-tier venues in the northeast area including the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den (CT), Hard Rock Cafe at Foxwoods Casino (CT), Toads Place (CT), The Webster Theater (CT), The Cutting Room (NYC), The Blender Theater at Gramercy (NYC) and Church (Boston). The band has also shared the stage with national acts such as ED ROLAND of COLLECTIVE SOUL, PETE FRANCIS of DISPATCH, HINDER, KEITH KANE of VERTICAL HORIZON, EDWIN MCCAIN, RYAN MONTBLEAU, NINE DAYS, PRAS FROM THE FUGEES, DICKY BETTS (of the Allman Brothers) THE BACKSTREET BOYS, THE SCRIPT, and THE FRAY.
The band's shows are energetic and emotionally driven, which led to the band being described as an "indie rock ass-kicking machine" by the Hartford Advocate. In 2007 the group won the Reader's Choice Award in the Hartford Advocate's Grand Band Slam, and in 2008 Columbia Fields won the award for best Indie/Emo band in Hartford, CT.
I saw you at Toad's in New Haven last year and bought your CD, and I want to tell you that when I listen to it the song that keeps playing in my head afterwards is She Says She Loves Me. It's really great and I feel like it could be a single, a top radio hit, with its punchy lyrics and great keyboard. Just a thought.
