Behold the Cosmic Gorilla....
Somewhere out there roaming among the elements, you’ll find the Cosmic Gorilla. By day he is a steadily paced up and coming record industry mogul and night, by sleepless night, he moonlights as an absolute genius. Something of a phenomenon that the music world is about to discover, thought it is by no means prepared to.
Call him producer, lyricist, film director and perhaps an at times ill-composed composer; this jack of all trades has mastered these few. O.K., enough of his earthly titles…this Kingston native lives to breathe life into a one drop. Being as gifted as he is in the music video art form, he finds it only natural that sights and sounds be merged. For the Cosmic Gorilla the very act of his multitasking delivers his audience into the realm of an individual that has the foresight and the retrospectives to transport them to an absolutely positive, feel-good scale.
His current vision of the music business is that of a thing that has taken on wings, especially with the advent of the internet. On a global scale, reggae is equally being taken seriously as a business as well as an art form. Yet, with old habits dying as hard as they do, the money talking monopoly prevails as getting past go is still an issue. That old grey-back payola demon is still grunting as it makes sleazes of many a disk jock, many a journalist.
The Old 45 Sound.....
Before ones began to “flash lighters”, they were “waking the town and telling the people.”
What is so Cosmic about the Gorilla is that, even as a child of the lighter flashing generation, his creative works pay homage to the legends, the pioneers, the forerunners...all the greats that “woke the town” This element of his work is what he describes as the old 45 sound. For the Cosmic, as innovative and as cross-over as reggae gets, there is nothing like that original sound. “As the man (Lee Scratch Perry) says, everything starts from scratch.”
As it was in past, so shall it be in the present. The Cosmic Gorilla stays up in the heights of his craft, as he forges light years ahead of this game of drum beat and bass...
