  • Bio

Quintessence, one of the great bands of the Hippy era, were the very first band to play at the Glastonbury festival in 1970.They returned in 1971 to be captured in epic form on Nic Roeg’s Glastonbury Fayre film. The band released five albums on Island and RCA Records, at their peak they sold out the Albert Hall twice. Now, nearly 40 years after the band split, original guitarist Dave Codling has re-forged with added horsepower the classic Quintessence sound, hand picking the most appropriate musicians available from around the country to revive the classic Quintessence repertoire in a live context under the banner of Maha Devs Quintessence. The summer of 2010 saw the band return to Glastonbury, fronted for this one night only (bar a Saturday night warm up gig on the Rabbit Hole Stage) by original vocalist Shiva Jones. The highlights of this gig are to be released on Hux records in the new year, mixed from digital multi track by their legendary Island era producer John Barham, Rebirth is an album to sit proudly alongside their trilogy of 1961-1971 Island Records releases. Thanks to Colin Harper.
