There’s nothing special about Cosmobile, is there? Three ordinary-looking guys with guitars and a small drum kit. No fireworks, no explosives, no stunts, no car chases. Why should anyone care?
Care or not, it was in 2005 when the current line-up was set with Tuomas Palonen on lead vocals and guitar, Olli Noroviita on bass, and Kimmo Kivistö on drums. The debut album, Travels, came out in 2007. After giving people The Finger and a handful of other danceable indie songs, Cosmobile started to work on new material.
The result is Making Do, their second album, out October 14, 2009. It is a blend of classic rock aesthetics (as in The Strokes), bouncy rhythms (as in Vampire Weekend), and positive energy (as in Talking Heads). The bottom line is simplicity, and how to make something out of it. No modern studio tricks were utilized and no musical virtuosity was witnessed. The songs are about making do in a Big Brother / Temptation Island world gone completely Lost. Yes, they are about survival and the album is a survival guide to the everyday jungle of concrete and commerce.
