| CountItOff: General Info
|
| Member Since | 11/9/2006 | | Band Website | countitoff.com (presently under construction) | | Band Members | Charles Carey-Guitar, Rob Rimmington-Bass, Matt Crowning-Drums | | Influences | Pat Metheny, Tribal Tech, Mike Stern, Robben Ford, Allen Holdsworth, The Brecker Brothers, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Jaco, Chick Corea, Joe Pass, John Petrucci, Steve Morse, and Brett Garsed. Also find influence in music such as Hard Rock and Funk and of course Blues. | | Sounds Like | CountItOff sounds like a touch of many of their influences. The music is most similar to what the old music of the Brecker Brothers was like if they had happend to be guitarists rather than horn players. Sometimes it is Funky and sometimes it is pretty straight forward jazz but there are usually some rather odd changes thrown in to entertain the musican crowd. | | Type of Label | Indie |

| About CountItOff |
|
CountItOff is the creation of guitarist Charles Carey and bassist Robert Rimmington. They met in 1996 at Boca Music Mart and after quickly realized they had similar musical interests and several compostions that they had never been able to play with a similar minded musician. The Sound of CountItOff is a fusion of traditional bebop study combined with influences ranging from funk to blues to hard rock. Their new CD is entitled "Room 237" and is available on Guitar9 records and CDbaby and many of the tracks will be available via download from this site shortly.
Charles is currently on the music faculty at Chadron State College in Nebraska. There he teaches Guitar, Bass, Jazz Improvisation, Music Fundamentals, Elements of Music (world music history). He also performs with the faculty jazz group "Faculty Jazz". He formerly taught jazz guitar, bass, music fundamentals, and other classes at Palm Beach Community College (1995-2008) and Lynn University (2000-2008). Recently Charles finished a method book designed to take the intermediate guitarist to the next level. This book, Bridging The Gap, is an attempt to fill the holes that are left by many other method books. The book is not in any way stylistically based and should be equally useable by guitarists of all backgrounds. Topics include, rhythms, reading in all positions of the neck, accompaniement styles for 2-beats, waltz, folk, latin, swing, etc, tips for transcription, scale and chord exercises and help in understanding their impact on each other, using arpeggios, rhythms, and scale forms to improvise, and many other topics as well. The book is written in standard notation, the only respected representation of the musical language, and DOES NOT INCLUDE TABLATURE!!! Presently this book is being solicited for large scale publication but copies can be purchased from Charles for $25 plus shipping. Just use the myspace email to contact.
Charles uses and endorses the Buzz Feiten Tuning System and will not play a guitar or bass without it. His main guitars are a Washburn X-50pro, Heritage Prospect with a 25.5 scale neck and basswood center block, and a Heritage 550 archtop. All of these have a Dimarzio PAF Joe in the neck position and a Air Norton in the Bridge. His amplification is provided by a Blackface Fender Princeton Reveb, run through an internally mounted vintage 10 Celestion and a Mesa Bogie 1x12 closed back cabinet with a Celestion Vintage 30. His effects are a Boss Blues Driver that has been modified by both Robert Keeley and Chris Condon, a Hermedia Zen Drive, a Boss chorus and a delay.
Rob is the electric and acoustic bass instructor and Florida Atlantic University and Palm Beach Community College. He also gives private guitar and bass lessons at Boca Music Mart in Boca Raton, Florida.
