Sounds Like

"I first made a set of six hand-cranked instruments. There is a mount for a contact microphone (piezo) on the back of each one, so it can be amplified. Each has a hand-crank in the middle, and all but the Spring Board Hand Crank have a feather-spine that acts as a plectrum that rotates when the hand-crank is cranked. As the plectrum rotates, it plucks something that vibrates and is amplified. The "something" that vibrates is in some cases a rubber band, in some wires sticking up, in one it is a metal strip, and in another one is a heavy spring. Each has a handy handle too."

(I now have many more instruments which you can see at the Crank Ensemble’s next performance.)

   About The Crank Ensemble
The Crank Ensemble is a San Francisco-based performance group whose musicians create rhythmic and repetitive patterns by using handmade crank-operated machines. The instruments are constructed by artist Larnie Fox; each has a mounted piezo (contact microphone) to amplify its sound. The ensemble of cranks creates layers of sound, resulting in a range of a sparse new-music style "plinking" to melodic loopiness and hardcore noise. The Crank Ensemble has performed at numerous local spaces/events such as the Luggage Store, the LAB, the Hemlock Tavern, 12 Galaxies, at 21 Grand as part of the Edgetone Music Summit, Godwaffle Noise Pancakes, the Maker Faire, and at New Music Bay Area's "Garden of Memory" columbarium walk-through event at Chapel of the Chimes.

Yo, we love the work you do to fight oppression and this bullshit system of exploitation. When you're working to shut down the war machine, environmental destruction, the world free trade efforts, racist and classist mofos, corporate swine and their media lapdogs, repressive laws, the fascist police state, and capitalism itself -- when you're working to support indigenous rights, the freedom of women and children (and men, for that matter), civil liberties and free speech, poor people and homeless folk -- when you're engaged in anarchist and anti-authoritarian struggles -- we want to help!

Trash Orchestra is a marching percussion band – a bone-shaking recycled orchestra. We make percussion on tuned cans, hubcaps and barrels, drums, pieces of sheet metal, and homemade oddities. We show up invited and uninvited at protests and celebrations, furors and fracases.

Invite us next time there's a need to make a ruckus, to shout out and make a big noise. We're there.

Love,
Santa Cruz Trash Orchestra

}{OK. Now, this is your comment number 04}{

..:..It's hard to tell what the sound input is sounds, a dynamic sound field of radio machinery with gentle sensibilities of musique-concrete turning into cold repetitive natural old voices. Some of these are the tape techniques of time-splicing in the dark mood, where sounds of a steady stream of hot lava and when silence is loops amplified. Most of the shining people go all the way out with nice cold lights hovering on them, disjointed drilling recordings drone nicely away, whether these are time things between high-pitched tone of something such as the recordings, or perhaps it triggers state of insomnia software mostly balanced scraping the darkness which can create processed thought enlarged sounds. It's hard to tell. A gently omnipresent surface even when the intelligence is an audible shining something somewhere in space. On a high, with stars, using headphones as if the crackles made in a form of soft and synthesizers, mostly atmospheres, the loss and decay of taped voices and man being logical in the crowd in the background and in the foreground call out during a noise that is a faceless piece of texture based on old recordings and indicates some of those places (which seems a more than unfocused decision). It's hard to tell. These synthesizers are now chopped up and re-processed as another fine blend of nature moments in a space where small stuff is assembled and amplified (or not) collage work is set against a hybrid of drone related music, that can suddenly change introspective into cold repetitive natural old voices. It's hard to tell. ....:.. .

.::.OK, ., so....welcome to the kalliedosphere.::.
