Daffodil makes a B-line for and repeatedly pokes the musical love button with huge walls of heavy guitars and smooth, genius power riffs. Sickeningly deep and groovy drum pockets coupled with resolute counterpoint bass lines can't help but tickle the pleasure centers at the core of one's soul, and the atmospheric allusion is a soothing balm for sore ears. The sweet and haunting vocals are a divine chorus poised on high to sing praises to the God of Rock, while the lush harmonies bless the humanity from which all Earthly music flows.
Daffodil's metal-inspired, melodic modern rock is reminiscent of Rush, King's X, Deftones, Foo Fighters, The Catherine Wheel, Smashing Pumpkins, and Stone Temple Pilots. Other babies include The Cure, Pink Floyd, Soundgarden, Faith No More, Def Leppard, Jeff Buckley, Metallica, Yes, Radiohead, Alice In Chains, The Police, and U2. This rich set of influences dusted with a penchant for Pop radio overtones and artfully crafted songs makes Daffodil right at home with a wide range of music lovers, even while secretly schooling their palates in a more refined melodic and arrangement sensibility.
Daffodil was formed in Austin, Texas in 1999 by guitarist/songwriter and New Mexico native Upton Ethelbah. Ethelbah enlisted the help of studio pro Roger Glenn on drums and talented, budding musician Scott Atkins on guitar and harmonies. Upton assumed live bass duties and Daffodil wrote, recorded and gigged as a power trio for the next 4 years. In 2004, Daffodil went on hiatus while the band members spent some time nurturing the other facets of their lives.
With the addition of longtime friend and fellow songwriter Patrick Andrews on bass in late 2007, the Daffodil fire has been rekindled and rehearsals have begun in preparation for another slew of live shows.
Oecumene, Daffodil's first full-length album is in currently in production with Austin producer/engineer Danny Stapleton and will be released in 2008.

What's going on Uppie? I like it man, I've checked you out before through Mike's page or Ham-Bone (Exaltron's) I don't remember, thought i added you back then, but im glad you refreshed my memory. Yea we should get a beer sometime, or a mean run to Dunkin Donuts. Later bro.
Good lookin' on the add and nice tracks! I always enjoy hearing new local rock acts. My album is available on my page (CDBaby link) or on Itunes search 'Darbstar' now and write me a review!
Loving it!! Best use of a M7 interval in a mettalish song (how is it not muddified with all that distortion?!). The bass sound gives it so much depth. Really cool. I like the blurb too, very original way to describe an original sound. Although I think calling them "clever riffs" doesn't do justice to the sound- it is way more than clever..
