Two years after « SOUL POETRY » , her first record -Best album of the Year 2006 / Groove magazine- DA*J*LA, « one of the few French singers able to match U.S. Soul artists » (Liberation), is coming back with her second album, « The Meaning Of Life » (March 2009), “leading a new and exploratory way in the French soul landscape” (Vibrations magazine)
“The Meaning of Life”, a blend of “cosmic” soul, urban blues, afro-funk and electro-hip hop, co-produced with her musical alter-ego and producer Benjamin "Benji Blow" Bouton, takes you on a colourful journey through Music and Human Nature.
This is “Afrodelic Soul”, as DAJLA , who’s also a bassplayer and a pianist, like to describe.
This new album was born after an initiatic trip to Gabon, Africa, amongst the pygmies and their local voodoo cult, called “BWITI”. There, during the ceremonies, ancestral dances, instruments and chants blend into electro and psychedelic sounds and visions…Magic, dream and reality become one…”The Meaning of Life” is born!
DAJLA and BENJI are joined by mind blowing musicians whom they met along the road: US rappers the Procussions, Angelo Moore aka Dr Madd Vibe from the mythic LA band Fishbone; the great Magic Malik (Paris, Fr) on vocals and flute, and amazing poets Allonymous (Paris, Fr) and Anthony Joseph (London, U.K.)… A galactic road trip, a futuristic experience : DAJLA brings progressive SOUL Music that’s definately looking to the future…
It is COSMIC… SOUL...It is *AFRODELIC*SOUL* !!

BIOGRAPHY
DAJLA is the Arabic name for River TIGRIS, a Mesopotamian river and soul sister of Euphrates River. Dajla is like this river : her spirit runs free and strong amongst the land of MUSIC.
DAJLA is a lead singer, a songwriter, a pianist and a bassplayer . She comes back to France in 2004 after 6 years spent in London and meets producer Benji “BLOW” Bouton.
Dajla grew up in the West coast of France, raised by a Soul and Rythmn'n Blues loving dad originally from Tunisia/Kabylia, and an American-Gypsy rock loving mum in the midst of the cool 1970's... She started playing jazz and classical piano at the age of 6 at the local music college. She picked up the bass at 17 deeply influenced by her encounter with Angelo Moore from Los Angeles band Fishbone in 1992.
After a few years playing bass and keys for various bands in Paris and London and several trips to the US, she meets producer/drummer/guitarist/keyboardist Benjamin "Benji Blow" Bouton on her return to France in 2004. Together they found what they'd been looking for…Their love for Hip-Hop beats, P-funk, Soul, Blues, Jazz took them to another space, where music knows no boundaries… DAJLA writes and rhymes to transcend the frustration, “ego trips” and alienation of a money driven world gone mad…Through her poetry and lyrics she states LOVE as the ultimate concept and viable alternative.
French producer WAX TAILOR introduces them to his label in 2006 and "Soul Poetry", their first LP was released with Undercover Records in 2006, then a second time in Feb. 2007 with two bonus tracks. DAJLA & BENJI BLOW got a band together where she plays bass and sings and have already performed at various festivals and in many countries from Africa to America and Europe.
In 2007, French-Gabonese dance director Herwann Asseh' (Cie Moral Soul) asks them to write the music score for his new solo show called "99". DAJLA and BENJI leave for Gabon, Africa, and discover the local voodoo pygmy communities and ceremonies, “the BWITI”. This initiatic trip will have a strong influence and everlasting effect on the young artists : "The Motherland” feat Metropolis from Foreign Beggars” (EP released Nov.08/Underdog Records-La Baleine) is a testimony of this journey and announces Dajla’s & Benji's evolution towards a new sound :
The long awaited 2nd LP, "The Meaning Of Life" ( Apr. 09/ Underdog Records/La Baleine) is a visionary blend of soul and electro hip hop enhanced by their spiritual, musical and human encounters all over the globe…
AFRODELIC SOUL!!! STAY TUNED!!!
