Dakora's Interests
|
| General | If you're too lazy to read my "About Me:" God, Music (listening as well as making), photography, videography...The usual. | | Music | I like a lot of music. Basically whatever, but mainly anything DIY. I'm not one of those people that's all "DIY or die" about music; I just like it better than all of the other stuff that I hear. | | Movies | I don't really like movies all that much. Except for Heavyweights. | | Television | Don't watch it. | | Books | Pretty much anything by Kurt Vonnegut, Anne Rice, J.R.R. Tolkien, Edgar Allen Poe, or Stephen King. Junior, by Macaulay Culkin. The Perks of Being A Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky. Tuesdays With Morrie and Five People You Meet In Heaven, by Mitch Alboom. In Cold Blood, by Truman Capote. | | Heroes | Jesus Christ, first and foremost, for everything.
My amazing (non-internet) friends. Without you guys, I wouldn't be who I am today.
Thank you. |

About me:
Hi, I'm Dakota. I'm a pretty boring person, so basically everything you'll ever need to know about me can be found in the following weakly constructed paragraphs.
I'm 19. I'm a broke college student.
I try to be the best person I can be at all times, but things, unfortunately, don't always work out. I don't smoke, drink, do drugs, or any of that jazz. No respect lost for anyone who does any of those things; they're just not for me. If I had to pick a religion I'd say I'm a Unitarian Universalist, leaning towards more Christian beliefs, but don't worry -- I won't try to force any of those beliefs on you. Instead, I try to accept people for who they are and not judge them because I'm sure I have just as many, if not more, faults as they do. I believe that everyone should find their own true answer and hold on to it.
I like music a lot, if you couldn't already tell. I used to be in two bands while in high school, An Act of My Own and Suite 11, but everyone either moved, started college, or left to pursue some kind of career. Now that I myself am in college, I have a new band called Stoked: The Band. I mainly play guitar and sing. We're in the process of finishing up songs for a 10" and CDEP. I kind of do a solo thing too, but I'm not the biggest fan of my songs so it's seldom that I play solo shows or release anything. It's all just for fun though, so I'm not worried about "getting my 'phat jamz' out there for big record labels to hear."
Speaking of big record labels, I run one. Except it's not big. It's called Bonfire Club Records (I wanted Bonfire Records, but it was taken). At the moment, I sell all of my releases pretty much at cost. I think music should be available to anyone, not just those who can afford it. If you can afford to pay extra for a CD by making a donation or something, awesome, it's a huge help, but if not, or if you just don't want to, that's fine too. The stuff I release ranges from poppy acoustic stuff to dark metal stuff.
Similarly, I set up local, DIY shows. They're a pretty eclectic mix usually, and are all free unless they're benefits for something, and even then they're cheap. If I have to meet a guarantee, I ask for donations. If donations don't cover it all, I pay the remainder out of pocket. I usually don't get much, if anything, in donations. Waste of money? Not if it puts a smile on one person's face or gains a band a new fan. For anyone reading this that's been to a show, bought merch, donated, taken pictures, given words of encouragement, anything: Thank you, thank you, thank you. And I mean that. You're the reason I do this, and I love you for it. Sorry if I'm weird sometimes.
That's about it, really. If you want to get in touch with me for some reason -- your band needs a show, you just wanna say hey, whatever -- please, please, please do NOT ask for my screen name or ask for me to IM you or whatever unless I know you in "real life." Just send me a message or a comment. I respond to all of them. I don't send friend requests, so don't tell me to add your friends. And finally, do NOT ask / tell me to check out / comment you or your pictures. I do that on my own accord. Not trying to come off as a jerk, but yea...A lot of that stuff is kinda pointless and annoying... Sorry! :(

Who I'd like to meet:
I'm not gonna do like most folks on the ol' MySpace machine and rattle off a list of famous / monumental people, nor am I going to go the "my dream girl..." yadayadayada route. Plain and simple, I would like to meet someone who cares.
Here's are a couple nice quotes:
"Sometimes, a mood is simply feeling more, saying something you are afraid to say, or even a willingness to be alive, vibrant, and in love. Sometimes the 'in love' is with a person. Sometimes it is with silence, or with music, or a feeling, or life itself." --Bruce Scott
"I believe the saddest thing in life is caring so much for someone and then one day you look into their eyes and listen to them talk and realize that they are gone. All you see in front of you is a stranger with just a known name." -- Unknown
