Music Director Jaap van Zweden
ABOUT THE DALLAS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA:
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra has a rich, 109-year history of artistic excellence. After an exhaustive search, the DSO named Jaap van Zweden as music director beginning with the 2008-2009 season. Eminent music directors such as Antal Dorati, Paul Kletzki, Georg Solti, Eduardo Mata and Andrew Litton laid the groundwork for important elements of today’s DSO, including extensive touring and recording, special community and education concerts and the building of the world-renowned Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.
The 2009-2010 season marks Music Director Jaap van Zweden’s second leading the orchestra, and will feature the stunning Carmina Burana, selections from Romeo & Juliet, major works by Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Mozart and more. Van Zweden and the DSO will make appearances at the prestigious Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival as well as a nine-city, ten-concert tour of Europe in 2010. The 2009-2010 DSO Pops Series, recognized as one of the best programs in the country, includes star-studded performances by Elvis Costello, LeAnn Rimes, Wynton Marsalis and Michael Bolton, to name a few.
As the largest performing arts organization in the Southwest, financial stability is a key element of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s success. Since inception of its 10-year strategic plan in 2003, the DSO has demonstrated five consecutive years of balanced budgets. The Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center is home to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and will celebrate its 20th anniversary during the 2009-2010 season.
