My rap philosophy is similar to Bruce Lee's philosophy on fighting. My style is like water, it takes the form of whatever beat I perform on. I want you to have to run me back a few times to get a better understanding of what I say or mean in my music and in LOST ART's music. I think an artist should use their craft to capture peoples attention. You should leave the audience feeling or thinking differently than they did prior to coming across your work.
In a hip hop culture that thrives on keeping it real, Damien chose to use his real middle name as his alias. His approach to rap music is to translate what he’s been through and what he’s seen into something honest, meaningful and entertaining. Born in Chicago to an Air Force family, Damien quickly learned to evolve and adapt to constant change and it shows in his music. His sound combines various social and artistic themes with radio ready musical back drops.
While currently functioning as both a solo artist and a member of the group Lost Art, Damien is putting the finishing touches on two debut projects at once. His solo project, tentatively titled “The Red Pill”, is derived from the movie “The Matrix” and is meant to open people up to more than the cookie cutter rap commonly found on urban radio today. Damien’s style takes the listener back to a time in rap when lyrical content and word play were a rappers most valuable assets. His music displays his ability to blend social commentary with clever wit and advanced verbal skills. He has gained strong support for his music on the social networking websites myspace.com as well as wemix.com.
Whether the topic is the club scene, the present state of rap music, or a chapter from his life, Damien’s approach is the same. Be honest, be effective, and be unique. Not one to take the title artist lightly, he prefers to create his own lane, while remaining relevant to hip hop fans. Joy, pain, struggle and success have all helped to shape his music and have helped him put his own spin on what being a rap artist of today is all about. In an industry that is searching for the next big thing, Damien’s goal is to be the next real thing!
