Daou (Bretoens voor Duo) is het sympathieke nevenproject van Jeroen Knapen (DADGAD-gitaar) en Gunnar Van Hove (flute & whistles). Deze twee muzikanten leerden elkaar kennen via de Fanteyfare, het huisorkest van het Onafhankelijke kunstencentrum ‘t Ey.
Beide muzikale vrienden speelden buiten de Fanteyfare in verschillende groepen waar zij hun ervaring opdeden. Jeroen Knapen is buiten de gitarist in de Fanteyfare en Griff ook de drive achter de nieuwe balsensatie Surpluz. Gunnar Van Hove verdiende reeds zijn sporen bij het Keltisch geïnspireerde Setanta waar hij naast de fluiten ook de bodhrán bespeelt. Buiten Setanta speelt hij nog in tal van andere groepen: Fanteyfare, Balsac, Boulet XL, enz. Sinds kort zijn ze ook samen op het podium te zien met De Vreye Vrienden, collectief voor stevige én milieuvriendelijke folk.
Na verschillende jams en optredens besloten beide jonge muzikanten om de handen in elkaar te slaan en een nieuw Keltisch-Bretoens geïnspireerd project uit de grond te stampen : Daou werd geboren!
Toch ontbrak de spreekwoordelijke "kers op de taart". Jawel, niemand minder dan Marieke Van Malderen vervoegde de 2 jonge snaken met haar stem. Marieke (Fanteyfare, Doedelyoudo...) geeft met haar prachtige stem een sterke meerwaarde aan de groep. Van ballades tot stevige oorlogsliederen, niets blijft onaangeroerd. Na een geslaagde vuurdoop in 't Ey gaat Daou door het leven als trio...
Onlangs werden er een aantal nummers opgenomen voor een mini-cd.

Daou (Breton word for duo) is the new and interesting project of Jeroen Knapen (DADGAD-guitar) and Gunnar Van Hove (flute & whistles). These two musicians got to know each other via Fanteyfare, the house orchestra of the independent art centre 't Ey.
Both musical friends play besides the Fanteyfare in several groups where they have gained their experience. Jeroen Knapen is the guitarist in Fanteyfare and Griff and he's also a member of the new ball sensation Surpluz. Gunnar Van Hove plays in the Celtic inspired group Setanta where he plays flutes and bodhrán. Besides Setanta he also plays in numerous other groups: Fanteyfare, Balsac, Boulet XL, etc. They could also be found on stage together with 5 other musicians: De Vreye Vrienden, group of solid and environment-friendly (bal)folk as the players name it themselves.
After several jams and performances these two young musicians decided to strike the hands and to give a go to a new project inspired by Celtic-Breton music: Daou was born!
The cherry was still missing from the top of the cake... until, no other than
Marieke Van Malderen agreed to join the two young men. Marieke
(Fanteyfare, Doedelyoudo...) with her incredible voice gives great extra
value to the Group. Covering everything from ballads to heavy songs of war, no topic is left unsung. After a successful try-out in 't Ey, Daou, as a trio, are ready for life...
Recently, a few tracks have been recorded for a mini-CD.
