Darkhalf is an ambient electronic instrumental space music ensemble that was founded to chart the darker side of the universe through the medium of audio electronics and exploratory sound experiments.
David Dilliway began the Darkhalf project in 2002. His main instruments are guitar, synthesizers and a desire to create vast flowing space-inspired soundscapes. Influences include ambient, cosmic, krautrock and space-rock music, as well as soundtracks and classical music.
Sound engineer and instrumentalist Jamie Ferguson joined in 2003, aiming to create dark, organic soundscapes with the use of electronic equipment. With Darkhalf, he is interested in closely integrating some traditional melodic and harmonic concepts with more abstract textures. Influences include Brian Eno, Delia Derbyshire, Coil, Hawkwind and Ligeti.
Versatile guitarist/vocalist and multimedia specialist Terry Davey is the latest recruit, alongside space rock drummer Matt Webber. Recent collaborators include noted international soprano Renee Salewski.Dave has now left.
