In 2003, Darvin Silva didn't have a cell phone. To contact him, you'd have to beep him. Then you'd have to wait, the pay phone was down the block. In 2004, he got a sidekick, and his first pair of blue edition Vestax turntables. I don't mean to sound so unbelievably cliche, but the rest is history.
Throw up before you meet him! You will be nervous, this is inevitable. First, there's the hair. Long, and sharp, to the point it looks like it could actually prick your finger if you approach it wrong. Second, he speaks fast. Not hotwheels commercial fast, just quick, and witty. If it wasn't for the music, he could have hosted the Tonight Show. The kid is a star and so it goes.
Jay Leno need not have any fear. Darvin Silva does music. He always has. In fact, he's one of those kids who lived his life to a soundtrack of music. An ever-pulsating beat which moved either fast or slow but never down in decimals. Never. At his father's side throughout the 80's, young Darvin in the first 10 years of his life learned to play an array of percussion instruments and strings, as well as read music at the world famous Boys & Girls Harbor in uptown Spanish Harlem. He learned the ingredients to a good time first-hand, and early at house parties the Colombian people are oh so known for. Where a gut-splitting laugh is at the bottom of a bottle of Aguardiente, the music is loud, and everyone is somehow related. Some might say the environment isn't the best for a child so young and impressionable, but more then anything, this is where Darvin Silva learned to dance. And dance he did. From underground parties to the legendary nightclub "The Tunnel" in N.Y.C., he was one of those middle of the dance floor kids you love to hate.
Nowadays you love to hate for different reasons. Nowadays Darvin makes you dance.
An accomplished DJ, he only comes out when the stars align, and the mood is right. He can play any club, any room, for any crowd anywhere but his weapon of choice? That 80's shit you know every single word too. That 80's shit you can dance too.
This year we see him put on a long awaited and well-fitted producer hat. Slowly turning his living room in Queens into a stylish home recording studio complete with a perfect little closet booth, the Blue Room New York City was born in early summer 2006 and has already been home to some memorable recording sessions. Teaming up with Will Divide to drop their own brand of colorful mixtapes, creating beats for the production team, as well as working closely with T. Shirt, producing and mixing on the now classic Volume 2. Darvin Silva has become a pivotal and driving force in the Earth Control team. He's come a long way from the little boy at his father's side. Throw up before you meet him! You will be nervous.
