The David Munnelly Band is... On the road since 2000. In 2007 alone the
band logged over 10,000 miles. Started by Irish button accordion
player David Munnelly, who's toured and recorded with The Chieftains
and with DeDanann, the David Munnelly Band is one of the hottest bands
on the traditional Celtic music scene. With members from Mayo, Dublin,
Donegal, and Tyrone, the exciting sextet combines button accordion,
fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, piano, bodhrán and flute for a
high-spirited instrumental sound colored with a bit of jazz and
ragtime, topped with the singing of All-Ireland champion Shauna Mullin
and the extraordinary percussive dancing of American Nic Gareiss. "The
Irish band to see" (Irish Voice) has won special acclaim for
incorporating the sound and feel of the Irish-American dance halls of
the 1920s and 1930s and such bands from that era as the Flanagan
Brothers with its traditional Mayo roots. Awarded "Concert of the
Year" for both 2006 and 2007 by LiveIreland.com. www.davidmunnelly.com

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
Thanks! You guys were excellent this year - then again, you're excellent every year. I was glad I wandered by Carp Camp Saturday night to catch the tail end of your visit there. Hope to see you back in Kansas again!
Hey David, just wanted to say you were great at Winfield, and thanks again for letting me jam with you guys. Continue your success to the rest of your tour, and I look forward in seeing you again.
